Reply to Hypothetically… If you were to create a film studio that rivals Disney/Paramount/WB etc. how would you do it? by AMAROK300
Studio: Motherlode
Icon: Black M from end to end on a white background.
I'm banking on bringing back the filmmaker. I want to see the following first thing Monday... David Lynch, Woody Allen, David Mamet, Harmony Korine, Ralph Bakshi, Hal Hartley, Atom Egoyan, John Waters, Adrian Lyne, Alejandro Jodorowsky, John Sayles, Alan Rudolph, Christopher Guest, Neil LaBute, Whit Stillman, Susan Seidelman, Alison Maclean, Guy Maddin, Larry Clark, Vincent Gallo, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Tarsem Singh, Crispin Glover, Amos Kollek, Henry Jaglom, Alex Cox, Fernando Arrabal, Amos Poe, Karim Hussain, Jorje Krippe, Bruce LaBruce, Brian Trenchard-Smith, Bob Balaban, Tom Noonan and Lodge Kerrigan
I'm looking for exclusive new content from each of them. I think there'll be some ideas there for film (and tv), and I'm hoping one or two stick to put us on the map. With that said, we are leading with Lynch's Wisteria. It should attract some names... and subscriptions.
Adele Hanael is handed an opportunity to return to the industry with a unique proposal. We'll go an exclusive 5 film run, and she'll get to pick with whom she works. This includes the opportunity for her to direct. These shall be rom-coms, and we shall see her English-language debut. I believe she can be marketable.

Reply to I just noticed when thinking of the popular modern sitcoms vs the popular sitcoms of the early/pre 2000s, many of the older ones used to be more centered around friends just hanging while modern are workplace set. Why do you think this is? by 3kool5you
I don't know, but sitcoms moved from "just hanging" to a more aggressive approach to comedy in the mid to late '90s - Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends. Shows naturally sped up as they went along even if they only briefly touched this period -- like Cheers. Arrested Development was one of the first to truly capitalise on this by moving at a quick clip, jam-packed with self-referential stuff. I far preferred the lazier early seasons of sitcoms pre-mid/late '90s.

I'd agree with those people, but they're not mutually exclusive. I'd have a few questions for these folks. Is Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman a sitcom? Ostensibly, it's a soap opera. Is Red Dwarf sci-fi masquerading as comedy, or is it comedy masquerading as sci-fi?

Of course it's a sitcom. Respect for putting Fleischman in there. Mine would be: 1) Fleischman 2) Chris 3) Maurice 4) Ed

Sorry. I didn't mean for it to be about you. I can speak from personal experience, and I don't even engage in most of the distracting activities. There's endless movies, TV, music, podcasts, the etymology of words, etc. It can keep me forever occupied, but it's not good for dusting off my TV boxsets.

Not you. In general. I didn't get a smart phone until 2021. I don't give my number out, and I have no real social media. But still... it was much easier to invest my time elsewhere without it. I've knocked over rewatches of Cheers (11 seasons) in 13 days, and Seinfeld (9) in 8. When I want to get back to that, I'll probably put down my phone permanently.

Kirk Devane. Nobody comes close. Bob Newhart nixed the character because the writers were spinning the craziest yarns around his pathological lies, and it was taking away from Bob's ego.
