The complete opposite, actually: I listen to most new albums once in their entirety, and then they go into my massive MP3 collection and I might stumble upon one of its songs when it comes by on shuffle.

Funk may or may not have been a base for house, it most definitely was for hip-hop: tons of samples were taken from old funk and soul records (the Amen-break being used the most, but Funky drummer and others being not far behind).
