Reply to Do you judge a book by its cover? What do you look at when deciding whether to rent or buy a book? by KittyLord0824
I can't browse for books in-person any more. At a certain point, I just get overloaded with all the titles and authors I don't recognize that my eyes glaze over and my mind stops processing any of them. I need a list of what I'm looking for going in, or I don't walk out with anything.
Don't get me wrong, I love physical establishments for books, especially libraries and independent bookstores, but window shopping for books just doesn't work for me.

Ditto to pretty much all of the above, albeit with one additional nitpick. Like the rivers, I didn't pick up on the symbolism of the colors until it was explained. The green looked too military to me, and the orange-brown just looked dirty. I think it's more or less impossible to get away from the blue and gold with how long they've been a part of our state identity, official or otherwise.

Reply to Do I need to carry a physical print out for my car insurance or can I just use the app to pull up my insurance cards if needed? by Listerine_shots
Just print it.
I once forgot to print out the updated cards before taking my car for an inspection. It wasn't a big deal for my mechanic to print out the updated cards, but it was a mildly embarrassing phone call that could've been avoided by just printing them out. On top of that, I'd really hate to try explaining that a picture on my phone is just as good as a printed card to a cop.

Some conservative somewhere in PA is kicking themselves because they voted for Shapiro on name recognition alone.

Reply to Connie Willis by ricocrispies
I think there's a pretty significant portion of readers (myself included) that have a mental list of top-tier authors that they'd like to read... whenever they get around to it.
I've been working my way through all the Hugo winners, and ended up putting it on pause immediately before Doomsday Book - the previous two winner was Lois Bujold, and I was so thoroughly unimpressed that I felt the need to put my whole reading project on hold. I took some detours, went back to authors I've enjoyed in the past, and don't plan on rushing back until I feel like it - after all, I know Willis is a great author, and her books are going to be waiting for me no matter how long I take to get to them.

Cause Lamb was a guaranteed L against Oz. He was too moderate to actually motivate voters, which is why Fetterman ran off with more than twice the votes Lamb could scrounge up in the primary.

Reply to What is a book that you found to be the most underline-able, highlight-able, or quotable? by Fossill4
Fahrenheit 451, I was gifted a very old copy from one of my teachers, and it's got generations of notes on literary allusions, metaphors, and general interest notes. It's probably my favorite book in my collection.

I got an email confirming that the polling center received my ballot this morning.
Go vote. Oz isn't a joke unless we make him one.

Reply to comment by h0pedivision in If Fetterman resigns, who would Shapiro appoint? I’m kind of obsessed with Giselle Fetterman. by [deleted]
On top of that, nearly every piece of coverage I've seen on the matter has praised Fetterman for seeking treatment. He's a sitting senator that acknowledges the importance of mental health instead of hand-waving it away.
