I like Radiohead, but I've never understood what's so great about Creep. Every single song on their next two albums is better.

Yeah, who knows. TIL. I really thought that word had fallen out of use, but it's easy to forget how much language varies.

Fair enough. I've been living outside my birth country (the US) since 1985, and I rarely encounter it. I don't think anyone's ever called me an expat.

Yup, just joking around. 'Expat' is a pretty quaint word, but at least it's real.

Also, before you moved away from your home country, were you a 'prepat' or an 'impat' or what?

Two I love are Jupiter, Florida by Christmas and Despair by the Skeleton Killers.
Less obscure, but if you're outside NZ you might not know White Valiant by the Muttonbirds.

Little River Band's Reminiscing mentions "the Porter tune Night and Day." Both classics now, from different eras.
Edit: another one. Bowie's Life on Mars? has the line "look at those cavemen go," echoing the line "look at that caveman go" in the Hollywood Argyles' Alley-Oop.

First three that jump to mind are The Cars, Hall and Oates, and David Bowie. You've got a somewhat broad list there, so I think all three of these have some overlap.

Oh yeah, for sure, as a step in their journey, I've got nothing against the song. If it led them to what followed, then I'm in debt to whoever saw merit in it. I'm just saying ... to me it's not surprising to see it on this list.
