Partly because the ballot is intentionally deceptive in that it tells you the amount of money that is going to be borrowed, instead of the amount of money taxpayers will actually have to pay, but also because I just don't think its needed. URI already gets millions. It doesn't need 100 million more to fix up a satellite campus that used for a couple small-enrollment majors. And frankly, their whole "Vote yes on 1" campaign is annoying.

The thousands spent on consultancy to find a new president, the unneeded new engineering building, the entire football team and its millions worth of support services, the campus based ambulance service when the University is already served by South Kingstown ambulances, their “director of re-enrollment”, etc.

You answered your own question.

“Why doesn’t the state build housing?”

“Profit going back into the city budget.”

There’s your answer. No incentive for the state to fund housing if all the revenue is going to go to the municipalities.

How the frat that threw this could be this dumb is beyond me. This party was literally a block down the road from the South Kingstown police station. They packed 400 people onto one small residential property (in broad daylight too, the arrests were made at 6:30 after the party had been going on for a while). How else did they expect it to go?

Bonus: The one who doesn’t have a photo(Ghalbuoni or however it’s spelled) is the frat president. Frat president arrested for underage drinking has got to be one of the best things I’ve seen in a while. The National organization for their chapter definitely isn’t going to be happy about all the bad press.

As a whole the state might not be as receptive to friendships as other places. Maybe it’s got to do with the population density - it’s the only statistic where we especially stand out. Just means you’ve got to work harder to make friends. Going to a bar or a show in the hopes of making friends isn’t a great strategy. Do something more involved and consistent, like an adult sports league, club, church, volunteer fire department, the list goes on and on. Joining an organization is an objectively better way to make friends because you’ll see people repeatedly. If you’ve already done something like that, then I’m out of ideas lol.

They’ve probably all closed down, likely sometime in late September. You’re out of luck. You might still be able to find some large frozen quantities at grocery stores (those buckets they sell), but other than that you’ll just have to wait until next year.
