We pay $2200 to rent a house in Jersey City. If we bought a house, we’d realistically be able to afford one in CNJ (MAYBE) with a 45 minute commute both ways. (Adding extra time for dropping kids off at day care/school)

We’d rather save those three hours a day in commute time to spend time with our family than putting equity into a house in the burbs.

Absolutely it’s short-sighted. But it makes sense in terms of time. There’s only so many hours in a day ya dig

I cannot stress this enough: the McDonalds in the Heights by Washington Park is TOP TIER. Food is always on point, fries never ever stale or cold, they have table service?????, super clean, the staff comes around and asks how your meal is.

I find myself here frequently because a. I’m a fat piece of shit and b. I have an eight year old. And let me tell you… their ice cream machine has been operational every single time the mood for a sundae strikes. What the fuck it’s like an alternate universe there. Five stars babeeyyyy

No joke, I’m running the risk of my Reddit handle being identified because I cannot shut up about how just great this McDonalds is operationally. If someone who knows me in real life sees this comment, I guarantee they will know it’s me.

The Wonder Years is the most affordable option we’ve found— $780 a month for full time, full day care if you live in JC.

Prices skew closer to $1200-$1500 per month in and around the Heights; you’ll always find these places offer sibling discounts but I have no idea what that looks like yet.

I haven’t heard of anyone citing a waitlist when I called around. Maybe that’s a downtown thing?

I’m going back to work from Mat leave next week so my research is recent.

In terms of experience with daycares, we had my older son in Academy House in JSQ— it was fantastic and we were paying $1000 per month.
