They do, I got very lucky! Often, pictures I've seen of the canyon in the daytime are a bit washed out and bright when the sun is high overhead on a clear day. I got lucky that at least until about 10 or 11, beautiful clouds darted across the sky and clung to the north rim opposite me. A spectacular day.
The perfect recipe for beauty: a rising sun, lazily moving clouds, and millions of years of erosion. About a week ago, I drove out along snowy and icy roads along the Grand Canyon's rim out to witness these views the morning after a modest snow storm, leaving a dusting along the canyon edges. As the morning progressed, the clouds began to clear, leaving me with spectacular lighting conditions and wonderful panoramic views.
