No joke. Homeowners are feeling the immediate effects but this will be passed through to renters in the future. It's a lose/lose for any JC resident, homeowner, and/or landlord.

In a nutshell: If you are against the school budget increase (and future ones), do not vote for anyone on the "Education Matters" platform. Noemi Velaquez is the only one who is running for re-election this year, but she voted Yes to the school budget increase. Her running mates are new candidates, but from what I can find they don't voice concerns about the existing or future budget increases.

Alexander Hamilton is the only candidate who voted No the increase last year and is running for re-election; he's part of the "Change for Children" platform. The other candidates are new, but have voiced concerns about the budget increase.

I don't. You can search for any of their given statements online though, as they've submitted them to a number of news sites and local blogs. You can also use the AMA tonight with Hamilton to ask.

This has been reported previously:
>The 5-4 vote broke along the same lines as the vote for initial approval in March. President Gerry Lyons, Vice President Gina Verdibello, and trustees Noemi Velazquez, Paula Jones-Watson, and Lorenzo Richardson voted to approve.
Vice President Natalia Ioffe and trustees Alexander Hamilton, Younass Barkouch, and LeKendrick Shaw voted against the budget.
Unfortunately I think Hamilton is the only one who voted No who is running for re-election this year.

It’s called ANCHOR now but it essentially serves as a retroactive rebate if you were a homeowner in NJ and fell across specific income requirements.
You’d need to have owned a home in October 2019 to qualify for this year’s benefit.

And just to tag on: u/AlexanderHamiltonJC (one of the few BOE officials who voted No for the prior quarter's budget increase) is doing an AMA Tuesday 10/25 6-8PM. He's fielding questions for it on the thread below:

Probably a stupid question, but are those elevated totals for Q1 and Q2 2023 set for future periods of time? Ex. will Q3 and Q4 2023 be just as high (if not more than) what Q1 and Q2 2023 currently have?

From what I recall last year, the Q3 property tax amounts were similarly delayed and they gave an additional few weeks to homeowners to turn in payment because of it.
I agree with everything you've said though.

There was an earlier thread on this:

I already gave my thoughts on the NYC location, but I don't imagine the JC one will be too different, especially as there are a lot of bumps that a new restaurant needs to work through in the first few weeks of opening.
