Reply to ELI5: Subnetting by thelumlaa
IP addresses are numbers, each 32 bits long.
A subnet of a given prefix length is a set of addresses for which the first prefix length bits are the same.
So 10.0.0.0/16 means all addresses where the first 16 bits are 00001010 (10) 00000000 (0).
If you wanted a set of addresses with the first 24 bits the same as 10.0.0.64, that would give you all addresses between 10.0.0.0 and 10.0.0.255 (inclusive), which we conventionally call 10.0.0.0/24.
But you already gave 64 of those addresses to someone, so you need to find 256 addreses all with the same first 24 bits and that is 10.0.1.0/24.

Reply to comment by pulsebait in eli5 why is the age of a car determined by it's mileage by pulsebait
In practice it seems good enough for most cars. If you have an extremely special use case (eg. a police car idling by the side of the road all day), your mechanic will take that into account.
Planes, by the way, use hours, takeoffs/landings (the number of those is assumed to be the same) and, for big ones, pressurization cycles.

In the absence of a better aggregate indicator, the mileage is a good first approximation for how used a car is.
Of course it is no replacement for a service history and a good pre-purchase inspection.

The same way he responded to the previous advanced weapon systems being supplied. By saying that THIS TIME it is too much.
Then he will report destroying them before they get delivered...

Please do elaborate.

I don't think it counts as a proper sacramental marriage, which (as many things that have a point) is based on the assumption that there is actually someone/something more important than oneself.

No, google does not say it's racist.
Google says (if it says anything) that "putting on the ritz is racist" is a thing people searched for. It does not mean it's true, it does not mean it's false. It means people searched.
You can search for that too, if you really want to, consider the arguments and decide whether you think it is racist. Otherwise it tells you nothing.

People do get just as tanned / burnt when moving. The people on the beach probably spent more time in the sun.

In principle, you could.
The force on the pump only depends on the pressure (for the pump of a given size), so that is fine.
Larger piston just means you have to pump large volume of fluid, so you have to be patient.
Of course making a sufficiently large hydraulic cylinder and putting it under your house might turn out to be impractical.

If you read the article, you might notice it's a silly joke, used as an excuse for (good) terible puns by everyone involved.
Not very oniony.
I am very sorry for the journalist, though, imagine having to report on a thing like this.
