I live in the city, The Fan, specifically, and absolutely love it. I’ve been here for a couple of years, have had no crime issues, and though I quit running a few years ago, I do walk the neighborhood frequently. I’m single and normally out walking on my own. Again, no problems at all- but I don’t take unnecessary risks, either. I love being able to walk everywhere I want to go- to dinner, salon, dry cleaners, etc. My neighbors have been wonderful and a nice mix- young and old, singles and couples…all friendly. It may be a stretch to find what you’re looking for here for $350k. Possibly if you’re willing to do some renovations. Welcome! You’ll love it here!

I may or may not meet a few friends at a brewery later. I’m learning toward not. I’m kind of partied out at this point. I may put my pajamas on, watch a movie, and be snoozing by 10.

Well, I’m not sick, so that’s a big win. I may meet up with a friend tomorrow night. Or I may stay home and be in bed at 10. Time will tell.

I interview people pretty frequently at work and beyond skill set, I really am just looking at how a person communicates, if they speak graciously about their current or former teammates, and their thoughts on working as part of a team. Our work is very team based regardless of position, and I need to know they can be happy being respectful of everyone on the team if they join us. Moral of the story- be pleasant to all. It makes work (and life) happier for everyone.

I’m saying I feel like a whale after all of the Thanksgiving to New Year’s eating and drinking. Time to tone it down after New Year’s, start eating better and less, and get back into working out.

The extent of my holiday travel was a quick day trip to see family in Lynchburg. Otherwise, I’m lucky that my (mostly young adult) children come to me. I love to cook for them. The downside of that is the time from thanksgiving to New Year’s is one enormous slide into becoming a small whale. Once they leave, I will spend the winter becoming a smaller whale by spring.

Today is my older son’s birthday, and I was thinking about my first meal after he was born. I was famished after not eating for about 48 hours and asked his dad to bring my favorite salad. I took about two bites and thought nope- I’m absolutely not ready for food yet. A day later, though, I was like a pig at a trough.

I got a gorgeous orchid, stupid nice bottles of tequila and red wine, truffle salt, and chocolate. My boys did well this year. And a friend surprised me with a bottle of Buffalo Trace. It was my best Christmas in years for many reasons, but none to do with gifts. (Although I love them all.)
