This is the most pointless week of the year. When I'm King I will declare this entire week a holiday and order all business closed. Nothing but solid week of feasts with friends.

That's cool, though. I would take all of the philosophy classes in a perfect world, but I can only really fit one into my degree plan (Computer Science). I figured Logic I would be the best one to take, since it seems like it would be the most applicable in my day-to-day.

myself no. I have known a number of people in Richmond from Buffalo and they strongly prefer Richmond. On the other hand, one of my wife's best friends has been in Buffalo for the last decade, not completely by choice, but has been surprised how much she has liked the place.

I didn't have a specific question. Just, what's the vibe like there? Run down and decrepit? Up and coming? Artsy? Punky? Craft-brewpub-y? Housing crisis? Jobs?

1

RVAGOD t1_j2bs4q7 wrote

Buffalo is a rust belt city experiencing a renaissance,.There are run down areas like and city but the majority is on the upswing, it's exciting to see the change over the last decade or two. Like any other city there are artsy areas, Buffalo has a real independent creative style. The city has a solid theatre district for plays/musicals as well as music as well as multiple outdoor venues when the weather is right. Housing market is affordable, that's obviously depending on where you are moving from but you should not have too much of an issue finding something. Not an expert on the job market and I bet it depends on what industry you are in. O yeah beer is everywhere tons of breweries and festivals, Bills, Sabres, our food is also a prideful point in Buffalo. We have a chill creative vibe with a bit of a wild side, come for a visit, I'm sure you will fall in love with the place.

you qualify for medicaid if you are unemployed or under employed. Another option is ACA marketplace for one you CAN afford. If unemployed you can also get EBT. It turns around in a week and if needed sooner you can call the person assigned to you.

Edit: mental health assistance is included in Medicaid. They have some damn good people in Hanover. My gf said they were the best after 10 years of therapy elsewhere.

2

eziam t1_j1wkkjn wrote

Not op but in the past 15 years and two houses, we replaced flooring 3 times. We used Floor Trader right outside Henrico/Goochland for the first home. Spent money and did costen floors when we sold that home. We recently used luxury vinyl plank at Floor and Decor for our new house. If you are able to, installing flooring is very simple. It saves us thousands of dollars by just doing it ourselves. The only downside is that it takes longer (it was just the wife and I and no experience).

1

Supergirrl21 t1_j1wvl5s wrote

Thanks for the info/places to look into. Appreciate having a starting point. We have definitely discussed doing it ourselves, but with two kids under 3 it will come down to the quotes we get and the cost savings vs. overall brain damage :) Pre-kid we almost certainly would've DIYed it. We shall see...
