New York has public indoor space with trees and tables and coffee vendors. Very nice.

The Bayonne box typically has only a 10 ft or less backyard, which is sometimes cemented. The City is trying to reinstitute the 30 ft backyard. I think they are horrible in terms of materials, sound insulation, and water runoff. You pay to heat and cool the high "Cathedral"ceiling in a typical living room.

Well they will not flood and bathrooms will work. They will not have asbestos wrapped pipes and windows that are painted closed.

How about non functioning bathrooms. Roofs with serious leaks. Like needing lots of buckets. Heat breakdowns.

The Mosquito Control Board of Hudson County was started by the early 20th century. Jersey City Medical Center did research on yellow fever. The Board continues to trap and record mosquitos continually, sending samples to Trenton and census numbers. We are surrounded by wet land. In the 19th century we were known for celery, a luxury of the rich that, even today, is grown in mucky soil.
The hospital of chronic cases ( many having encephalitis) was run by the County.
When West Nile virus was first discovered, Hudson County had far fewer cases than New York City, or Long Island because the Mosquito Control Board had continued to track and trap.

Mosquito park was called that because it is still very wet in the back, and so was full of them. People slept under nets especially on the west side. There was yellow fever, malaria and encephalitis.

Join the Journal Square Neighborhood association. Lovely people. They have a speaker every month that might be arty, history or local issues. I find its a great way to meet people. Park your car in union city and pay so you dont hassle with it. Ride a bike around town or take VIA. Your best park is Pershing Field Park. You can get some green time volunteering there with the Pershing Field Garden Friends.
I dont know but your alumni association might have a chapter here. Get on the list for the Hilltop Association, too. They are on the eastern side of Journal Square. They have a facebook site. The city site has local parties, get togethers, new rules etc. I dont know your interests.
The local Sierra Club has many hiking, canoeing and naturalist tours. There is a group for everything here.

Ok I understand. The Heights has neighborhood associations. Are you near the East side of the Heights? More South or North?

Band aids are unavoidable in a system that has had no maintenance for 50 years or more. Very old buildings with inadequate wiring, bad roofs, non-working bathrooms and no air conditioning make it so that the BOE has to gerryrig things to cope.

Jersey needs Independent school districts, the way the vast lands of the Mid and Southwest have. Unfortunately, NJ towns are built on patronage, which makes it impossible for anything like a school district to be politically independent.
