I've lived in Springfield for 15 years and have been to ES dozens of times. All these comments recommending Branson attractions and I'm just over here wondering if I've been driving to ES wrong all these years because I've never taken 65 or gone through Branson there or back!

Sure don't. Just a regular. You can argue all you want but obviously you haven't been and don't know anything about the place. I just hate to see a hardworking business talked down about things that aren't true.

SEVERAL staff are members of the LGBTQA+ community. Several. The bar features flags of support for all. Extremely inclusive as a result of the hard work they've put in to negate incorrect opinions such as this.

This is 100% not true. The man in question is no longer affiliated with 417Taphouse (and hasn't been for well over a year) The owner is extremely LGBT friendly and is in no way affiliated with anything you've mentioned. In fact they are currently working on getting many inclusive events started. Please do some research before speaking out against a beloved local business.

There is always SOMEONE sitting at the bar at Taphouse reading a book and I live for it. Great place.

Reply to Missouri Comic Con 2023 Video by DoYouNerd
I enjoyed the show well enough, but I traveled from coast to coast attending the biggest comicons in the nation for work for many years. What really disappoints me is that absolutely nobody will show up to support the local con (VisionCon) but can come out in droves to support a traveling con that does nothing for the community.
Everyone comes out of the woodwork for a show like this but can't be bothered otherwise. Just shows you aren't there for the fandoms, you're there for the celebs. Most local vendors (and I know of at least a dozen, especially local authors) weren't even given consideration for panels or booths. Local shops weren't given the opportunity to exhibit either.
Not the Cons fault by any means, but I'm disappointed in Springfield as a whole. We need to do better to support our own rather than throwing more money at the void.
Just my opinion.
That being said, Planet Comicon in KC is next month and it's one of the best in the Midwest. All you con-lovers definitely should make your way to KC!

Not necessarily what you asked for, but when I moved into my house 6 years ago, I needed a washer quick and cheap. Totally planned to get a better one at a later date. Went to Lowe's and legit found the cheapest Roper model they had. Guy on the floor said everything he could to get me not to buy it but I was in a tight spot. He told me it wouldn't even last a year. 6.5 years later I've never had a single problem with the damn thing 5+ loads a week. Top loader too!

Word around town is that he co-owned WR and already has signed it over to the other owner so it shouldn't be impacted.

Welcome to MSU. When I lived on campus during snowpocalypse, they didn't cancel a single day. The dining halls were closed bc they didn't have any food to serve and yet campus and classes remained open. I still to this day can't believe it. They couldn't feed us but expected us to get to class? Yep.

Obviously not in this weather, but my favorite Springfield past time is to take a book to Nathaniel Greene with a backpack full of snacks and read the day away. I've spent many a day under a tree at NG.

I'm from the Cairo area. Lived here in Springfield for 12 years now. Never would've thought Cairo would be mentioned here. Both my parents were born in a (now abandoned) hospital in Cairo. Building has been empty for nearly 30 years and is creepy AF. My folks talk about going in to explore all the time. I bet Cairo is a gold mine for this, but you couldn't pay me to traipse around that town knowing what I know. 11/10 don't recommend.

Reply to Perceptions of Drury by Haidian-District
I always love this question for a few reasons. I'm not from Springfield, but I moved here for college 13 years ago and have called it home ever since. I love it.
When I moved here, EVERYONE always "this is a college town" and I only thought people ate, slept, and breathed Missouri State. The entire 4 years I was in school, I never heard a word about Evangel or Drury. I worked at Bass Pro for 5 years. Never met anyone from Drury or Evangel there either.
I even went to Drury's Halloween parties twice. Never knew a soul (had a BLAST both times).
Anyway...
9 years post-grad and honestly I don't know a single "local" who k or cares a single thing about any if the colleges around here. I try to be involved with MSU as an alum but even I don't know or care about much of anything pertaining to it.
So, having that perspective on me, I still personally know very little about Drury or its culture aside from the fact that it's private and has a beautiful campus. I've PoGo'd there many times over the years. Aside from that? Yep... I know nothing.
