Yes! That's pretty much exactly what I've heard. Great care, worthwhile, but a majority of patients won't give birth there in the end. If you can swing it financially, I think it's worth hiring a doula and planning to have the actual birth at Magee.

Reply to Two Pittsburgh museums are among the tops in the nation, according to a poll by da_london_09
Our Children's Museum and the connected Museum Lab have some extremely innovative and inclusive programming that you won't find at other museums, which is probably why it made the list.

Sure. If your water doesn't fully break and/or you're in labor for too long, or any other complications, they send you to Magee.

Yeah, but also sooooooo many people who plan to have their baby(ies) at The Midwife Ctr end up having them at Magee anyway. I know quite a few women who that happened to, and one who wasn't able to get the nitrous because there were too many women in labor at the facility and they ran out of tanks 🤷

It's sad, but not surprising. Being a small business owner is usually a thankless job, and you don't get nearly as much support (and free marketing) as the bigger outfits. Pittsburgh is a closed off community when it comes to restaurants and retail in a lot of ways, and cult followings are often not enough to keep these places going. It's a damn popularity contest out there and as much as we don't want to admit it (and as cool as this sub is), for the most part, we're a basic bitch city 🤷

Reply to Opinions on potential rent: is 4500 before utilities too much for new construction, 3b 1.5ba, 1 car garage, quiet st in great neighborhood (central Lawrenceville) too much? What is your estimate on utilities (heat and electricity) for such a size? New to town here, would love your input. by prenzlauerallee3
I still have friends in central Lawrenceville who paid $2,000 a month for a whole row house. You can also rent a same-size condo unit in a 24/7 desk service building with gym and pool amenities for half the price.

I mean, what did you get? I know people who hated it; They ate the soup. What you want is the Becherovka with the Pierogi and the Selerowy. Can't go wrong with those.

That's what happens when you let a dude from Chicago in to "revitalize Pittsburgh" 🙄

Again, you can lease a store space in Ross Park Mall for the same price or cheaper than a terminal space. There are zero local small businesses that are cool that can afford 10k/mo rent. Literally, I can go to Williamsburg and find a similar retail space for the same price - and that's Brooklyn. Either make the rent cheaper or embrace the Chipotle.

I was about to say this, but with Philly. Pittsburgh drivers are a dream compared to Philly drivers. You take your life in your hands every time you get in a car in that city 😆

Every single dessert I've tried is amazing (Edit: everything is made in-house) - This is definitely the correct answer. Pricey but well worth it!
