Adding to this, most beaches have beach wheelchairs available to borrow, though I think you're supposed to reserve them in advance.

Free parking in big commuter lots outside of big commuter hours (this is me annoyed to pay $8 to park in Hamilton from 5-7:30 pm, when the lot is emptying out).

I think basically all of the beaches except Sandy Hook are fair game. Don't metal detect at Sandy Hook because they don't want you poking around in the proving grounds.

I moved here from Texas 9 years ago and I find it annoying.
I have a lil car with a small tank and I find the order of operations frustrating. I often wait several minutes after my tank is full (since it's half the size of an SUV's) for them to circle back to me.

I went to North Carolina last summer and the beach was "free" but there was no public parking for miles, so functionally it was private.
And there were lifeguards, but instead of on a stand, the guard was on an ATV patrolling several miles of beach. Hope she's close while you're drowning!
