I want this quote as a bumper sticker.

On top of the vile false accusations, she brags about doing her hair and make up to look good for the mug shot. This is a 40-year-old woman.

I feel like I heard/ read once that there was a time when people didn’t name their child until the child was eight days old, due to death being quite common for newborns. Or is the eight days thing just when they were baptized? Anyone know about this?

And the company that made Candy Crush was bought for just under $6 billion, so I've definitely accepted the fact that I don't know how any of this works.

I'd recommend The Pearl by Steinbeck. It's the same length as Of Mice and Men but a different style. It's almost like a story being told and passed down, like a legend or a fable.

Thank you for your thoughts. A Prayer for Owen Meany is one of my favorite books, so I guess I should definitely try Lonesome Dove.

I always hear high praise for Lonesome Dove, but I’ve never cared about westerns. Is it a book that goes beyond its genre as something that most people would love?
Interesting fact: I’m a teacher, and there were three kids who went through my school who were all named after characters from the book (the kids were all in the same family.)

I hope that's not the case. I thought her acting (or maybe just the fake accent?) was horrible in S1. If she has to carry the weight of being a major part of the story, that would not be great.

Good points. It makes me curious about what the "big" book clubs have been selecting (I think one of the Bush daughters has a popular one and Reese Witherspoon as well.)

I've never heard of it, but I just looked it up on Amazon and the Kindle version was only 2.99, so I grabbed it.

I found a lot of great stuff through those Tower Records listening stations. Don't know if those were chosen by employees or chosen by the corporate office.

Can anyone recommend a good book on the overthrow of the Shah in Iran? I know pretty much nothing about the time period, except for watching the HBO documentary.
