You know what, this is the cynical Reagan-era bullshit that started us on the race to the bottom that we're currently winning. There are plenty of politicians who are in the business to help people. When you find one who isn't, or you disagree with the way they're doing it, work to elect another one. Don't just sneer, throw off a useless wise-ass comment and walk away.
This smug "all politicians are useless so don't bother" attitude is at best lazy, and at worst a con to get us oligarchs to use public indifference to privatize public services to make a buck at the expense of people who need them.

I'm all in favor of supporting public libraries. That said, NJ as a whole probably has better libraries than pretty much any state. Maybe focus on funding cities that aren't able to meet that standard.

While we’re looking things up, what’s the law about grown ass adults riding their bikes around on the sidewalks people are using to walk?
And what are you doing that’s so important that it’s impossible for you to walk for a bit, like everyone else on the sidewalk?

You’re going to do what you’re going to do, but don’t fool yourself that you aren’t being an asshole because you’re trying to avoid hitting pedestrians as you ride around on the sidewalk.
I’m sure, like you, a lot of those drivers you’re trying to avoid have convinced themselves they aren’t a problem because they aren’t actively trying to run down cyclists.

If you can’t ride your bike safely on the street that doesn’t give you a license to endanger us on the sidewalk. The law isn’t “bike on the sidewalk, just don’t be a dick about it”.
Walk your bike on the sidewalk; everyone else on the sidewalk is walking, if they can manage it so can you.

I would think a pretty sizable portion of the world not living in liberal democracies live in Russia or (particularly) China

LPT if you feel that uncomfortable with doing something don't let yourself be coerced or guilted into doing it anyway.

Please stop playing the oppressed victim. You expressed an opinion which I feel is deeply insensitive. You’ve made it clear you feel the same way about mine, ok. I hope you do delete it, but because you realize how thoughtless it was not because you think I’ve somehow “squashed your opinions” because I think they’re deeply misguided.

And how should the families of victims of suicide feel about this attitude that natural causes is somehow a preferable way to go?
Your mom can cling to whatever misguided religious beliefs she wants, you’re the one who decided to announce to the world your hopes about how this person died. Maybe you’ll get lucky and it’ll turn out to be cancer or a drug overdose. Fucking ghoul.

It’s not complicated. Do not leave your operational car in the middle of traffic, period. It’s dangerous, it’s illegal, it’s incredibly inconsiderate.
While the police in the US are a violent, often racist institution are you seriously making the case that you have to break this law because of that? If you encounter a dangerous, racist cop you’re even more likely to trigger them by breaking the law than following it.
