The big one is Hudson Bay is open water in the south and the narwhals used it as a breeding ground / feeding ground. The “entrance” is way north and is usually iced in. Orcas couldn’t traverse it, but narwhal could. Now receding sea ice allows the orcas to swim around, herd the narwhal groups to the shallows and just slaughter them.
