Plus, the folks living in nyc are also taking Ubers home at 3am so it’s really just an extra $15-$20 for us downtown JCers anyway

I don’t think anyone’s honoring Columbus with the current street name. In fact, who even likes that road lol, it’s chaos.
My point is, let’s not honor these people with future project names and street names. But the slippery slope is when you open up everything to change because someone did something that’s not good. Every town in America can probably find something to change. Are we going to push to change all that? Those aren’t the issues we need to focus on today.
Human rights, environmental protection, future of our society. That’s what we need to focus on, not changing street names in every town. That shouldn’t be top of yhe list

Where’s the line then? If you change names on this, then it’s a slippery slope and next thing you know statues are coming down cuz they were associated with a slave owner back in the 1700s.

I couldn’t care less. It’s just going to create a whole bunch of administrative work. All for what? It’s not like it’s called Hitler’s Way ave.

Fair point, and I admit dont actually know. It’s also several hours from nyc, but that’s a easier relocation for nyc workers than say in Ohio or Missouri. Lots of experienced workers end up moving farther and farther away from nyc itself anyway
It could be for something entirely different like deals cut with the state

Yeah, you would think a state with lower taxes and lower costs, but I guess upstate NY could at least draw from a richer talent pool with the proximity to nyc

There hasn’t been any drop in businesses or tourism due to homeless. If it has its due to remote work and covid. Unfortunately this has become an ‘accepted’ part of the city and society. Any solution that comes for this probably needs federal gov intervention. Because if NYC fixes it, other cities will send their homeless to nyc.
