Reply to comment by sitadino in How Does Pittsburgh Weather Compare to Chicago’s? by PatienceOk3159
Oh and meant to say, Pittsburgh is literally surrounded with beautiful hiking and mountains and fun. Nothing like driving out of Chicago to the shitty soybean fields

Lived in both, chicagos weather is a million times worse. Yes Pittsburgh is gray, but gets nowhere near as cold as consistently or dramatically as chicago. (Pgh people think they know winter but they have little idea hehe). Public transit, as has been said, is variable depending on where you live in pgh but nowhere as reliable as the L. Car is whatever you prefer, I have lived years in pgh without a car working all over the city. Just try to picture most city’s public transit in the 90s, that’s Pittsburgh! You would enjoy the urban hills here, it’s quite a playground if you like them. Biking is fun too

Yeah maybe something previously in south side but it’s gross mostly. The kind of stuff you said is rare in ole pgh :) but there are a lot of fun dance nights at various bars/spots - jellyfish, hot mass etc

Reply to Opinions on potential rent: is 4500 before utilities too much for new construction, 3b 1.5ba, 1 car garage, quiet st in great neighborhood (central Lawrenceville) too much? What is your estimate on utilities (heat and electricity) for such a size? New to town here, would love your input. by prenzlauerallee3
Too much, literally just a money grab to see if they can get someone with so much $$$ that rent doesn’t matter to them

Reply to Cozy coffee shops open after 5? by marshmellow_delight
For ideal classic pgh vibes, Bloomfield yinz is open till 9. So few shops open late these days. I have started going to breweries if I want to sit around and work/draw/read etc at night but it’s not ideal :/

Reply to This is like the fourth time this has happened when I inquire about a rental and its a bit exhausting. I'm not moving into a 500 Sq ft apartment on a snap decision just because that's the only way a landlord will honor the prices they're advertising by Sunfish-Studio
Good call - also, anytime a landlord or rental company in pgh has tried to tell me that there’s low housing availability and there’s NO WAY I’ll find somewhere to live if I don’t accept their offer right away, it’s total bs. You can even send them screenshots of whatever you end up finding to help round out their “market research”
