A lot of people would agree with that. Wilkinsburg has a proposal to merge with Pittsburgh:

https://wilkinsburgmerger.org/

There is a lot of consolidation of services with Pittsburgh in Allegheny County that don't include annexation. Waste disposal and policing in particular. EMS, not so much. IIRC, a lot of municipalities in Allegheny County maintain their own volunteer fire dept.

Also, this is such a great question. Have you checked in with r/urbanplanning to discuss the classification issue? I worked for a small neighborhood association for a few years, and we were qualified for certain CDBG grants because of our demographics. I am sure that there are other economic opportunities that are offered to 1st class tiers that aren't offered to all classes. Some of those would be infrastructure opportunities, like airports, interstate roads, and consumer rail development.

Ah, okay. But still, it's not saying that removing them is dangerous. I think of this the same way that things changed when POC were included in graphics in books and posters. It's an acknowledgement that you are seen.

I don't think the schools can really do much more than that, unless it's an intervention in a situation that endangers a student.

I wish I did. The interviewer was a woman, and she had two guests, both men. I checked the site, and there was an article listed, but the interviewer was a man. This was today, and I am not sure how long it takes WESA to archive their shows.

EDIT: u/GSDBUZZ u/xxdropdeadlexi I tried looking the NPR schedule over for yesterday. I tend to listen while I'm working and don't really track the shows. I did two webinars yesterday. So, my listening time was 10AM - 1PM and 3PM - 5PM. I am so sorry I couldn't find the show!

Peer countries is a more important consideration. Also, the education budget isn't keeping up with GDP. It also doesn't meet UNESCO’s benchmark of a 15.00% share of total public expenditure on education.

These are some of the reasons that our education system isn't working at the level that it should.

Here's a good overview of comparisons to other countries and also within the US

https://educationdata.org/public-education-spending-statistics

We're 12th when comparing to other peer countries and we are below benchmarks for education spending by some measures. At one time, what you are saying here was true. But it isn't so much true anymore.
