But the down side is its too big to steer or slow down/speed up effectively. You just got to hold on.

I read a proposed alternate ending to Passengers that I thought was great. Instead of he saves the ship, she forgives him, they live out the rest of their lives happily..She never forgives him, he dies saving the ship and now she is stranded alone on the ship..Final scene you see her finish a drink at the bar, say goodnight to the robot barman. Then you see an anguished look on her face as she stands over a cryopod looking down at a young man, realising she is about to make the same terrible decision to wake someone up.

Reply to comment by nhpcguy in Asteroids sudden flyby shows blind spot in planetary threat detection by coinfanking
If we can discover an asteroid when it's nearing its apoapsis, it's slowest highest point in its orbit.. and if it can be predicted to be on course to impact Earth..and if we have a defensive impactor rocket somewhere out there on standby... and if we can get to the asteroid quick enough... it would only take a tiny little bump to knock it tens of thousands of kms off course. That's a lot of ifs.. but I think we're only a few decades away from having a somewhat effective chance at preventing an ELE.

I'm in a hotel in north Ryde and I can't see the moon from my balcony. My co workers are on the other side of the building and they just posted some pics. And honestly I'm just too tired to go look. It sounds pretty sad, but honestly I'm beat. I've driven 20km to take my telescope out to dark skies to see Jupiter and Saturn conjunction a few years ago. But tonight, nope. I've seen lunar eclipse before and all, but tonight I'll let you all have this one :)

Reply to I have a question about why a black hole’s gravity is more than it was when it was a star (detailed question in description) by [deleted]
I've always assumed that a black hole is like a star that has accumulated so much mass that it's gravity has tipped over the point where light can escape. Light no longer leaves it, it bends back.
