One of the best views for Jim Thorpe was taking the Switchback Trail from a small park and go straight up to the top. It's steep and a tad challenging, but the view at the top is so worth it. Not far distance-wise, so it won't take too much time.

Reply to Pennsburg New Resident - We are moving to Pennsburg soon, specially on newly built community on Montgomery RD, like to know more about pennsburg area and places that we can visit and anything else. by IcyAcanthaceae8740
Originally from Allentown, moved to Pennsburg for a year, before moving to central PA. It is in the middle of two other communities, East Greenville and Red Hill. There are enough local services (i.e. Walmart in East Greenville and Weis Markets in Pennsburg proper), a decent library, and YMCA. For more corporate stuff, Quakertown is 10 miles east and has most everything.
It looks like you will be close to Green Lane reservoir, which has nice trails from paved, unpaved, or gonzo. It is rolling hills through the area, with a nasty one alongside Route 29. The unpaved gravel trails are fun, but watch out for horses. In nearby Perkiomenville, the Green Lane Trails connects with the Perkiomen Valley Rail-Trail, which is gravel and flat. This connects to the Schuylkill River Trail that goes to Philly.
Another fun park closeby is Quakertown Borough Park. Nice community park that is loosely connected to the Upper Bucks Rail-Trail, that goes all the way up to Hellertown.
The history is very interesting for being one of the first locations of Schwenkfelder settlement of Germans in the 1730s and some structures of their time are still up in the area. Other German denominations of the early-mid 1700s are still prevalent of the area (just modernized) as the land was cheap to farm and bordered treaties with the Amerindians, until the Walking Purchase of 1737. Quakertown is famous for the Fries' rebellion in 1798 (tax issues).
I am a big fan of going to the Spinnerstown Hotel for food whenever I get a chance (thinking of going there Valentine's weekend with my lady). Great beer selection, food, and service. It is halfway between Pennsburg and Quakertown. I like going to QMart too, but some people may not due to political sensitivities and how "cheap" things look.

Manchester was one of the four places I was considering while house hunting. The housing prices were good and there was enough local services if I was in a pinch. The thing that turned me off was the school/local taxes...so in the end I went somewhere else nearby (have no kids).
Not far from Manchester are John Rudy and Rocky Ridge Parks...one has nice paved paths, and the other one has unpaved trails and scenic views. From John Rudy, there is a bicycle path that connects to Maryland and then some. After this railroad underpass gets fixed, it would be 27 miles to the PA/MD border and another 18 miles to where the trail terminates near Cockeysville. There's a golf course nearby Manchester as well.

If you want a good start, on archive.org and search in the "metadata highlighted. "Bucks county" history in the search bar. W.W.H. Davis was a saint for Bucks. There are numerous other counties in the state done by authors and are free to read on Archive.org; I just used Bucks as an example.

Reply to Favorite interstate in PA? Personally I find the drive between Altoona and State College on 99 to be quite pretty. by Apprehensive-Access1
I-78. Have done the drive so many times from Allentown to Harrisburg area and there is enough variety to keep me going. Whether the farmland, warehouses, that guy from New York in the left lane going 65, the lady from Virginia going 105 and doesn't matter who's what and where...still going 105, and that trucker duking it out with the other trucker on the small rolly hills...only to be full weight and cannot go uphill; makes the slower trucker catch up. It improves my driving awareness skills and I love it. Sadly, the trips to Allentown are likely going to dwindle down next year. But trips to Shartlesville will be the same.

Reply to Hi all - would like any thoughts about moving to Easton for a job change… by Creative_Camel
Williams Township/Durham Township area (in the south) or Raubsville/Riegelsville. Right next to the Delaware River is a nice walking/bicycling path, along the canal. It is not paved, but well-maintained. That portion goes from Easton to Morrisville (across from Trenton). There's another portion along the Lehigh River from Easton and eventually will connect to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre areas.

Live closer to Harrisburg, than York and got a house in 2015 for $119k. While my professional life is pretty disappointing (my hobbies keep it going strong), living here is nice for the commutes to wherever. Mountains, beaches, the northeast megalopolis (except for Boston lol), and hometown. Another thing I like here are my taxes are lower than when I lived in the Lehigh Valley.

Went to State College for a marathon in 2015, so I haven't been on US 322 past Duncannon since then. I knew the PA 144 interchange was going to snarl traffic, but glad its done now. I believe the rest of US 322 between PA 144 and Boalsburg was going to be 4-lane, instead the rolly 3-lane (center lane) road.

I'm just a traveler in the central/eastern part of the state, so sadly I don't know what is or isn't recommended in the borough. On a maps search, I saw the gym is near a library and historical society, so I guess it would be okay. The Walmart is in basically the shopping center outside of town and its a middle of the road location (not great, but not terrible). A suggestion is to make a trip up there if you can and hit all your marks before making your final housing decision.

I would be kind of closeby for the winters if you have to travel to work. Tamaqua is quiet for how rough it looks at places, but it has enough for the essentials to get by.

Incredibly false. Most go after a low (or none) tax base and a good connection to a commerce route. There's a reason why most PA warehouses are along the interstate corridors in the eastern part of the state.

Highly unlikely, unless Elmira, NY gets a modern, corporate industry. Then yeah, Bradford county is perfect for the warehouses lol.

It has some hills, but nothing of the rolling nature of 68. Haven’t done much time in Pittsburgh so maybe 230 on a Friday is when things pickup?

Well, there's I-68, instead of the turnpike...but that is all rolling hills. I think your best bet is to take US 219 up and taking your time on parts is ideal. Good luck and have fun! Watching the Bills game?
