It is dishonest, but it also stems from the fact that people got so focused on the numbers that they kept shrinking them because otherwise people wouldn't think there are improvements. If I remember correctly, the number itself was never actually super accurate as the different processes would measure things differently.

Pixar existed for years as part of ILM. Eventually George Lucas wanted to spin it off and that is where Steve Jobs comes in. He bought into it securing a controlling share. Calling this founding it seems weird to me since it was a thing without him. He was an investor.

I’ve literally worked on software regulated by governmental bodies like the FDA. In a safety critical thing, it doesn’t matter what the source of the flaw is or how it is fixed. The only people I’ve seen bothered by the term are ones who seem worried about a negative perception of a certain brand of car that seems to need lots of software tweaks.

It is about the flawed product and not the fix.

If GM sold bad brakes but they hired teams of brake gremlins to swap them out overnight without you knowing, what should that process be called?

None of the nations were acting on the information from the reporting. Instead they were investigating the incident themselves, as they had the actual capability to figure it out for themselves. We are at the edge of Armageddon because one nuclear nation decided it could annex other sovereign nations when it wants to and not because of some poor reporting.

Which is to say well enough. His strategy here is to drag things out. The committee itself is likely going to shut down soon unless the democrats somehow manage to hold the congress. It isn't impossible the last I checked but they will have to be lucky. He only needs to kick up enough dust to get him into January. On top of that, he will be using his run for reelection as a tool to frame any case against him as a political hitjob. It doesn't really matter if he loses his case after the point where it could have any impact on him.

Devs and Maniac are the first things that come to mind. I've seen those already recommended, so I'll add Fringe to the list. It is a bit more like X-Files in structure. There are lots of "monster of the week" style stories that tie into a larger overarching narrative. It handles its lore a lot better than X-Files did and wraps up rather nicely in my opinion. I'm not sure if it is still the case but it used to be streaming for free on IMDB.
Another good X-Files adjacent show is Evil, although I wouldn't really classify it as scifi. Take X-Files and swap out the aliens and the FBI for demons and the catholic church.
