I'm looking for a winter coat to wear all winter. I get cold easily and I live in New England in the US, but I don't want to look like I'm dressed for the arctic. I want it to look good for my office job because I'm planning on getting a promotion. I think the Patagonia coats look nice, but I don't know which one is the best. Maybe another brand is just as good? Thank you!

None of the actually warm coats are really going to look "right" as officewear if you are in a professional setting. My vote is with Land's End Stadium Jacket, but I chatted with one of the facilities peeps because I felt bad tracking in mounds of snow all the way to my desk where I had a boot tray and they showed me a coat closet right by the hallway entrance that I'd never noticed and apparently neither had anyone else. I tried for years wearing nice wool/cashmere blends and scarves and nice insulated leather boots, but I just landed up with five shawls and scarves wrapped around me and still cold, which looks a bit more bag lady than finance dept.
When boss did see me going out the front door, he was more impressed that I actually looked dressed for the weather! The other nice thing about going with one massive jacket is that you don't need layers of sweaters under it. You slip off your coat, swap shoes, and boom you are set! And your nice leather shoes aren't getting so much salt and slush.
