Delicious, consistent and reasonably priced. Couldn’t beat it with a stick.

If it’s so easy, feel free to open up a Goan or Bengali or Kerala restaurant here. You should get your James Beard award quite soon.

The lunch special is almost good for two lunches... Fragrant and tasty. I wish it was a better location.

Recently tried Passage to India and while I’m no expert, it was a cut above the rest.

Passage to India was great, I’m sad it moved from Porter to Lechmere because now I can’t walk to it 🥲

I’m pretty sure the new place Jo’s that’s there is run by the cousin of the passage to India owner and it’s also solid

Punjabi Dhaba is probably the best as far as food, but is very much order and the counter street casual style. If you want more of a shutdown restaurant feel, Kebab Factory is also very good.

I haven’t actually been in years, but Kebab Factory was my favorite buffet about 6yrs ago. And I went to all the others at the time. Unless it’s changed for the worse it is solid af.

Technically Somerville, but definitely worth the trip. Also tons of food for the price

India Pavillion on western Ave in central! I have been going there for around 25 years.

They have deals on family meals that are a pretty good deal too (for Cambridge)

Huh, working nearby I used to go for lunch sometimes and found it adequate but kind of bland, generic and uninteresting.

I always make the trek to Surya instead. No buffet, but worth it.

Tanjore used to be in Harvard Square and moved down Mass Ave into the old People's republik bar (about halfway between Harvard and Central).

When I worked in Harvard Sq it was my go to spot. So so good.

Partner and I used to really dig Passage to India and Masala but the former moved out of our neighborhood and the latter really dropped off a cliff a few years back, so we've been sort of scrambling for a new spot.

Nirvana was okay when it had the lunch buffet but we're otherwise sort of unenthusiastic. Singh's Dhaba has been hit or miss in our experience (solid entrees, bland/mushy apps). Punjabi Dhaba remains solid if you're near Inman and I've enjoyed the Maharaja in Harvard Square the few times I've tried it. That said, Spice Delight on the Belmont/Cambridge line has sort of scratched the Passage itch unlike anyone else, recently. Surprisingly solid.

Whatever you do, just avoid Jo's Kitchen (place that moved into the old Passage spot in Porter Square). That place is all heat and no flavor.

Shanti, Passage to India, and Momo and curry are great for northern Indian/ Himalayan. Was not impressed with Punjabi dhaba. For Southern I love the new fusion spot in seaport - madras dosa factory. Husband and I are both Indian by descent, born here, so our taste buds are a little blended but we grew up on the authentic stuff

Yeah I wanna know what the comparison point is for everyone here recommending Punjabi Dhaba…loved the staff, but the food was extremely meh for me.

Have you tried Maharaja or Guru the Caterer? Former I like for, let’s say, “standard” Indian restaurant fare, Guru is really good homestyle North Indian. I continue to hunt for a good Gujarati restaurant but alas, this is probably not the area for it.

I know I’m honestly surprised. I thought it was worse than frozen options from the grocery store lmao

For good guju food I’d say edison NJ for closest but there may be some options in CT

Kebab Factory and then my favorite is India Pavilion. Punjabi Dhaba is great too.

Another vote for Punjabi Dhaba in Inman. I haven’t eaten there in a while, and certainly not since the move, but I have many fond memories of Tanjore.

For Thai food, I’d recommend Dakzen on Highland in Somerville. It’s right across the street from the Cambridge city line, so hopefully it’s still close enough (neat trick if you have a Cambridge resident sticker, and want to drive and park). I also would recommend Sugar and Spice in Porter Square. I’m not vegan, but I love their Vegan Kow Yum. It’s both photogenic and delicious.

The only Vietnamese I really know of in Cambridge is Le’s in Harvard Square. Despite the lack of competition, I think it’s still pretty good. That said, you’d have far more choices south of the Charles, especially in Dorchester.

Mulan for Taiwanese foods. I like India Pavilion, though I haven’t found a favorite in Cambridge yet. Shanty is my gf’s favorite, but I like Anmol in Beverly, it’s just too far from the city

Seriously make friends with people of Indian origins, and have foods shared between the two of you. I'm not a fan of many restaurants, and I'm a big fan of home made foods.

If you’re in North Cambridge, Masala in Teele Square is technically in Somerville but it’s very close to the Camberville border.
