Combination of scenic and best roads to drive on
Rte 7 North to the border
Kent, Cornwall, all gorgeous towns
Literally came here to comment that
One of my favorite things about moving up to this area is just driving around. Whenever I’m out shopping or running errands, I often take the longest way possible from here to there just to enjoy the scenery.
84/91 flyover, the Mix Master, 95 through Fairfield county, the Merritt on a weekday morning
Hello Satan.
The Merritt on a rainy, Friday evening is so much better! The festive red lights everywhere really get you into the spirit of the season.
You really need help. 😂
Up Route 7 to the weed store right over the border in MA
That is beautiful. The ride is really nice too.
Are you referring to the “the pass” that seemed to be the closest one I could find on apple maps
There's several up there, about 5 minutes further up the street is Rebelle
Probably. Drive 15 minutes further up the same road and you’ll pass Rebelle, Great Barrington Dispensary, Farnsworth, Calyx, Theory Wellness (okay, you have to make one turn to get here), and probably a few others that I’m forgetting.
There’s a bunch of them in the lower Berkshires that are very easy to get to and the ride is beautiful from where I come from in Fairfield county.
haha i actually was referring to The Pass but as others pointed out there are a number of stores a few miles down the road as well. The Pass is quickest, but I especially like Rebelle.
A nice ride in eastern CT is Rte 49N out of Pawcatuck, head up through North Stonington/Voluntown/Sterling > 14A west towards Canterbury > 169N through Brooklyn/Pomfret/Woodstock to the MA stateline. Very nice foliage ride
One of my favorite rides on the Harley
Sure is
You say this without a nod to the Bean?
Hear hear!
Good call! Wasn’t even thinking of all the stops
You ride a motorcycle. I literally ride this all the time
I also ride a motorcycle. Recently moved to SE shore. Riding is great down here, and this is excellent news to read. Too bad it’s November
What kinda bike you got?
Ninja 400. Got the bike around the same time I moved down here. Can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.
Nice I have the husky 401. Nice riding in Ledyard and North Stonington. Groton is fun to zip around depending on how you like to ride.
I’ve done lots of exploring in the Groton shore/ Noank area, fair amount on 161 in niantic to 156 and then 213. 85 is fun and familiar. So far been trying to find zippy roads by the shore. I’ll venture into the more forested areas up north east in the spring. Thanks for the advice!
Check out Watch Hill and Misquamicut and stay safe
Every time I take this drive, I think to myself…this would be a great ride on a bike.
This is my answer as well, I love this corner of the state for driving

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
It’s hideous and it smells like farts, steer clear of Litchfield county.
And if you want to drive briskly through the scenic countryside, Lime Rock Park will let you do that there.
Time for the Northwest Corner to shine!
Saugatuck Reservoir area in Redding/Easton/Weston.
Beautiful area as well. I used to fish the reservoir a lot. Always enjoyed driving around almost as much as fishing
I84 thru Waterbury at 5:30
Gives you plenty of time for site seeing over the beautiful city.
Back roads of The Last Green Valley.
Yale Forest
Most people don't realize you can actually drive straight across the Long Island Sound. It's incredibly shallow and suitable at low tide for your average family SUV.
154 south in Haddam along the Connecticut River past the Godspeed opera house is beautiful. Will take you through Chester and Essex, which are cool places with good food. You can then cross the River and check out the Florence Griswold museum and hit up Book Barn. Keep driving east and you get to Mystic, Noank, and Stonington.
Book Barn!!
Rtes 4, 179, 44, 318, 202. Old rte 8, rte 7. Etc.
Either Litchfield county or 58 > Newtown tpke loop through Redding, Weston & Easton
Route 7 north of New Milford to 63S in Canaan to 202W in Litchfield which will take you back to Route 7. *Mostly* decent roads and a fun Sunday drive.
Route 7 is really nice. I make a loop from my house to route 7 up to where it meets route 63 and then take route 63 back down to home. All nice and scenic. Some areas have a little rough asphalt but the majority of it is really nice and smooth.
I've been to 46 of our great states, and I don't know if the residents of CT know how lovely their small roads and hwys are? Get off the Interstate at almost any exit and within 15 min. you should be driving thru woods and farms, past all manor of homes and over streams, up hills and around bends in the road, it's part of the reason I fell in love with this little State.
Route 58 in Fairfield/Easton/Redding.
I always loved the route 39/37 loop
Northwest hills are great, just minimal cell phone service
Roads are highly encouraged, sidewalks less so.
The roads you discover on your road bike
The right lane
For a fun, challenging drive, my commute from I-84 every day is a great test if you like lots of hills and turns..provided it's not snowing. I-84 East, take exit 73 in Union. Head East on 190 to 171 East. This will take you through wonderful Bigelow Hollow State Park and the Yale Forest, a beautiful, up-and-down ride. At the fork, take 197 East. This will take you to Woodstock. Follow it to Rt 169 South (far fewer hills and curves), and head down to Lisbon on this National Scenic Highway.

edit: Someone else mentioned Yale Forest!
Route 169 in Brooklyn/pomfret/Woodstock it’s a very scenic route.
Mixmaster on 84 is gorgeous this time of year. Na Litchfield on your way to limerock is nice.
Reservoir road in Vernon heading towards tunnel road.
Barkhamstead Route 219 and anywhere in the Northern Route 8 area. You’ll thank me later
Head south until you leave the state. Keep driving and never look back.
Rural/Coastal New London county has some stunning sights to it
Here's the DOT map of all state scenic roads for some ideas. These roads are protected from changes that would alter their character.
41 and 77 are officially scenic end to end. 49 is almost the whole length. NW Connecticut has the most options.
169 and 97 can be very scenic in the eastern section of the state.
Mass or NY
Across any of the borders
95 in Fairfield county
lol. nothing like getting a tired right leg from so much braking behind giant luxury SUVs. I don't miss living there at all. Southeast CT is so much better.
I just assume a few things about anyone who says litchfield / Fairfield lol.
North end of Hartford. Take the kids. /s
Home
Worst traffic east of the river. You are safe NOWHERE.
To the border of any other state
No where all the roads are terrible and beat up your car
The border to another state.
Out of CT 😎
