Power crews rank with other emergency crews. They also see what needs to be fixed and are as frustrated as anyone with the decomposition of our once fabulous power grid.

Love to see support for the workers here! Eversource is a garbage company but that's not on the labor, they're out here doing what matters.

I spoke to an Eversource lineman several years ago after a storm cut power to many homes in town. He said “I hate the company but I love my customers”. Unfortunately there are customers who take their anger at Eversource out on the guy in the bucket truck trying to restore their power.

Also Bantam Wesson, thanks for sending a guy to my house Friday in the black of night, frigid temps, to replace a component on my propane tank so my generator could work. The guy who came out worked outside WITHOUT GLOVES at 18 degrees to get my generator working during the power outage.

I remember this happening in 1985 with Hurricane Gloria. If I was busting my ass on an 18 hour shift to restore power and some asshole started abusing me, I would do everything possible to blow apart their TV/appliances with nice 20,000 volt surge.

Is it just me or is a big part of the problem that people aren't properly taking care of their own trees. I see so many trees in our town that need work but people don't want to pay for it, then they complain about Eversource when the trees take out power lines.

It's also crazy to me when I see people with $90k vehicles and they don't even have a portable generator and a properly set up electrical panel. It's not a big expense compared to your overpriced SUV.

Yup. The workers bust their ass in frigid weather and shitty conditions on Christmas so that the suits can get gigantic bonuses.

Now, those workers are making bank (OT+holiday pay, etc.), but they deserve it, since they’re doing the actual work.

I have an in law like that. Her and her husband (no kids) have a decent house, new pickup truck and SUV, multiple vacations every year. Last year they wanted to know if they could borrow one of my generators if they lost power. Big no from me.

Lots of people don't comprehend that utility companies own the wires, not the trees. They ask permission to trim or remove trees, and if you say no, they can't touch it beyond a very small window around the wires as it is not their property. So if you have a neighbor that won't let them take the trees down, it's actually his fault your lights went out.
