I've used this many times while snuggling with my cats. I turn it on and put my phone in my pocket or under my shirt. I dont know if my cat thinks I am the one who's purring, but he appreciates it and purrs back quite loudly, more so than normal.

So my cat APPROVES this.

Wonderful!

If OP made this, one suggestion is to have a button to disable the timer and/or a +/- option for it. Having to tap so many times to cycle through the options is a bit of a pain

Otherwise this is a thing of beauty. Very well done!

I played with the settings to get an output that sounded the most similar to my own cat.

Pure purring (no miaows), high skewed towards sleepy and overjoyed, all others neutral.

T_for_tea t1_is4xx3u wrote

You gotta try to fool the cat that you're purring. Start with some fake purrs and get the cat on your lap or w/e way you normally snuggle with your cat. Then adjust the thing and put it in your pocket or somewhere near your chest. At this point you can stop the fake purring.

Iunno if it works for all cats but my cat likes it and in response purrs even louder.

Use your choice of internet exploring app (chrome?) Instead of opening over from here in reddit.

It works fine without headphones, at least on my phone speakers.

try head phones. raise volume all the way up on your device then raise the volume on the website itself. the controls for that are at the top of the web page.

and finally at the top of the page there is a mute button and power button. make sure its not muted and that its turned on.

We have a new kitten, rescued from the local shelter. https://i.imgur.com/lwjqMzU.jpeg

She's quite scared of everything but slowly getting used to us. But she hasn't purred yet, even though she seems content when she's on my lap.

Yesterday my wife was playing YouTube videos of cats meowing to maybe help her acclimate to her new home, but no real reaction from her.

I tried purrli for the first time this morning, and she reacted... Not necessarily positively, but not terrified. So I turned it off. 30 seconds later she started purring for the first time! My wife and I are amazed.

To whoever had the vision and drive to build purrli, thank you!

This is cute and not knocking the website but are people really this insecure in everyday situations that they would need to hear a recording of a cat to calm down? That is like something Angela from the office would do. But at least they're her cats...

There was also a joke in the mighty boosh where he carries around a photo of a kitten to manipulate people. It's funny cause a gag. A website that purrs is funny and cute way to toy with your cat but I hope nobody actually needs this to function.

Is there an animal humane society near you? If so, just go visit for a while and hang out with the cats. They need company and exercise.

You may consider volunteering, but I understand wanting to have occasional playtime without picking up poop.

You seem like the type of person that not only believes that schools are setting up litter boxes for students, but also has long winded rants about it while riding on a public bus and everyone wishes you'd sit down and shut up.

DonArgueWithMe t1_is63keb wrote

Try meowing to your kitty also. I have full conversations with my cat (in meows) and I think it makes her feel better to be able to interact and engage with me

3

DamnItDinkles t1_is6dfbe wrote

Love all the options, I would also recommend an app I use called Atmosphere because it does a lot of white noises you can layer (put on on quiet and one on louder) and also has cat purring on there as well. My go to is usually rain as medium, thunder more quiet and then a cat purring or a fire cackling at medium.

Now this is hilarious!

Right now, I have a barn kitty here with me. She has no real owner and many names, as the whole neighborhood is her restaurant. Somehow she broke her hip in the beginning of September. Dad found her and I raced her to the vet and am keeping her inside to heal and be safe. She's doing much better already, but I'm scared to let her go outside again, as people are racing through our village at insane speeds. Those fuckers ran over my sister's cat, and my username checks more than out in this regard...

So, while she's here in my living room, casually pawing a ping pong ball, I opened this website and had it purr. Right away she came to sit down with me on the sofa, muzzled my arm, meowed, disapproved of the artificial meow with a "Dafuq is wrong with you?"-glance, and when I set the purr to a sleepy and relaxed cat, she snuggled down and dozed off, too. Nice.

Both of us like that site. Thanks, man!

Oh, cool, now I can keep up. I learned to mimic the purr sound when I was a kid and my cat thinks I'm the best because I purr when I pick her up for snug hugs. Little does she know that I can only sustain it for a breath's length.

Ran this on my iPhone and thought it was cute. Until it embedded itself. I closed all apps and made sure it wasn’t playing thru any Audio apps but the purring and meowing continued. I’ve never seen a web site or app do that. Absolutely nothing running on my phone but it continued to purr and meow until I restarted.

This. This, caused me to spend 20+ minutes searching for a cat in my basement. I accidentally clicked the link putting my phone in my pocket on a work meeting on teams. I kept hearing a meow every few minutes but it was so faint and random I kept looking everywhere.

It doesn't help that there's a few cats that roam our neighborhood and my kids have a bad habit of not closing doors. I spent so long looking around for the cat before I realized it was coming from my pocket.
