They ask the first one, "so what are you in for, Mr. Weed?"

"Well, it's ironic, but I was actually busted by the cops with weed. How about you, Mr. Koch?"

"You're not gonna believe this, but I was actually caught with coke."

Amused at the coincidence, they turn to the third man.

"And how about you, Mr. Dickinson?"

Sigh, such a missed opportunity for a double whammy. "Father Dickinson."

American. Ever heard of the Koch Brother(s)?

I have heard the name, but had no idea that's how you pronounced it (I'd only ever read it; never heard it).

It's a fairly common German name, and they definitely don't pronounce it "coke" 😂

Yup, and the proper pronunciation of their last name is "a$$w1p3"

The one that people named Koch use?

It's a German name. In Germany, it's pronounced absolutely nothing like Coke. Some Americans, including the famous and despicable oil barons, do pronounce it somewhat like that, although this is by no means uniform - as with most non-English names that have been Americanised, pronunciation varies drastically from family to family.

I work in EP. There is a cardiac anatomical term "Triangle of Koch" that is pronounced just like coke.

Are you not familiar with the Koch brothers?

^ This. In German, it sounds like "cock"; in the non-USA Anglosphere it sounds like "cosh". To be 'coke', it would need an umlaut over the 'o', i.e. 'oe' sound.

Sensitive_Potato_775 t1_jd75add wrote

This is so wrong lol.

In German, it's something like "Ko<hr>", the last sound being guttural. An "ö" would make it sound more French but there's not a single k in the pronunciation of the last syllable, no matter how many Umlaute you add.

To make it sound like "Cock", german would write "Kock".
