Tangent, but it's always annoyed me how they measure 'reach' in combat sports (boxing, MMA).

Let's say a fighter has an...80 inch reach. Now as I understand it, that measurement is with their arms outstretched, from the tip of one middle finger to the tip of the other.

But realistically, even if you have an 80 inch reach, if you're standing 80 inches away from me, you can't hit me. Because that's 80 inches divided between both arms and the torso. To me, it would make more sense to measure from the shoulder to the fingertips.

I had just gotten out of the dentist, mouth and jaw completely numb, my mom told me what had happened when we got to the car (she'd seen it on the waiting room TV). We spent the rest of the day at my grandparent's house with them glued to the TV and me waiting for the novocaine to wear off so I could eat or drink something.

I once got threatened with a lawsuit because a fanfic I wrote had someone's name in it.

Seriously.

Well, 'seriously' as in "I received an email from what I found out through my research was a legitimate law firm", but I doubt I would have gotten sued. Apparently, this person had an uncommon name (which I had coincidentally just thought up) and the site that hosted my stories was popular enough that my fic showed up on the first page of the Google search, so they were concerned about someone seeing that (the character was a criminal in my story).

So I had to hurriedly write to the host and notifiy them, along with sending an edited version of the story with a different name. That one didn't get noticed, apparently.

If you're left handed playing a right handed guitar, very few people can make that work (or vice versa). Try flipping it over and restringing it (because when you flip it, the thickest strings will be on the bottom) and see if that helps.

This is also the difference between what are known in mixed martial arts as 'air chokes' or 'blood chokes'. An air choke does just that, cuts off the ability to breathe by compressing the trachea. Certain positions with a guillotine choke do this, along with the gogoplata (shin choke). You can also do this with a rear naked choke, which was how PRIDE veteran Fedor Emelianenko preferred to use the hold.

A blood choke compresses one or both carotid arteries and blocks bloodflow to the brain. Properly applied, with enough strength and leverage, a blood choke will make someone pass out in about 5-6 seconds max from hypoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain). Blood chokes are used more often in combat sports precisely because they're much quicker.

Let this be a lesson: when using ANY kind of household chemical, wear eye protection.

Shit, I put on my shooting range glasses when I Windex my mirrors, because I've gotten backspray in my eyes and let me tell you, plain blue Windex stings like a mofo.
