If you have troubles opening jars like I do then keep a small piece of sandpaper on hand in the kitchen and use it to open them with relative ease. It just needs to be a square big enough to fit around the lid of a jar. The grit doesn't seem to matter so much but I assume more grip gives more grip on the lid. I just grabbed a piece of sandpaper I had laying around and used it. It's like a finer grit but it works great. And the best part is it should last for a VERY long time.

Lever-up the edge with a regular tin opener. This breaks the seal, allows air in (reduces the pressure difference) and...makes the lid easier to open by hand.
