Many Mainers are concerned after seeing "dirty rain" hit the state on Friday.

Thankfully, the phenomenon is likely being caused by a dust storm from Texas and Oklahoma.

Maine DEP Division Director Andrew Johnson says tests have shown that vinyl chloride is not present in the lower region of Maine's atmosphere.

"We are not seeing anything that suggests that we had any impacts," Johnson said. "There could have been particulate material that came down with precipitation, but the window for that would have already come and gone."

I noticed a buildup on my headlights tonight that didn’t look like salt. Washed my car yesterday and figured the rain would get the rest of the dirt; guess not.

Can’t help but question the bs when it comes to environmental cover ups.

Ultimately, though, there’s not gonna be a whole lot they’re gonna be able to do about anything coming down in the rain from Ohio. If it’s present.

Typical of government officials to not simply place a lawsuit against the oligarchs so as to not diminish their wealth 2% .

Not like they would do shit with that money either.

They could at least print it and get a blimp and make it rain all over the state.

Not everything is a conspiracy but when a corporation gives a town of 5,000 people 25,000 to split as compensation for "inconveniences", it's pretty safe to assume they aren't actively trying to help the public.

So after seeing all the weather maps of the gases and chemicals floating up into the atmosphere and towards new England, where do you think the rain is getting contaminated from?

Again, if you don't want to acknowledge that the shit falling out of the sky is the same shit that flew into the sky upwind of us...that's fine.

Careful. Many people have a deep-seated need to panic and victimize themselves. They will lash out if you take that away from them. Best just to sit back and let them search for culprits they can blame for their existential angst.

The railroad is boned. They will be paying for this for a long time.

It takes a long time but you don't want to mess with the government when it has public outrage behind it. Just ask bankrupt Purdue Pharma.

Didn't the tell the people in Ohio something very similar as all the fish and other animals were dying? I for one don't believe them they have no credibility left in this matter.

Why do you bring an example that's so easy to knock down?

One Google search and boom.. Knoa Pharma to buy Purdue pharma.. (Whenever this happens it is just a PR recycling and a "hard" rebranding or asset distributing; all parties win specially lawyers)

.. Sacklers have never faced criminal charges.. something something public backlash.. (Gimme a break)

ppitm t1_j91j07s wrote

Why did you just move the goalposts so hard?

First you complain that the government won't even sue to take 2% of the corporation's wealth.

Now suddenly bankruptcy (all the wealth) and multi-billion dollar fines aren't good enough, only criminal charges are.

So the first thing you said was dumb. Simple as.

Yeah i guess so. I'm happy with bringing back the guillotines. Not sure if we'll agree there but it does sound like a solution.

Like still have due process, but end in guillotines.

Got any science to back that up? Second guessing is easy different issue entirely. Is the railroad outrageously irresponsible and should they be taken to the cleaners? Sure. That doesn’t mean DEPs data is fake and they’re part of some giant cover up.

NS did not give that 25k to the town; rather, it gave it to the Red Cross. There is reportedly a $1 million fund set up by NS to help townsfolks with relocation costs. NS is also being asked by state and federal agencies to cover the cost of the response and cleanup. That is unlikely to happen absent a consent decree.

Meteorologists who have been asked similar questions point to dust from OK and TX. They also note that several weather systems have gone thru the east coast since Feb 3 and that if any part of the smoke/debris cloud remains, it is over the north Atlantic and northern Europe.

Who is "they"?

It is well noted by state and federal agencies that the local stream and a few that that emptied into were loaded with dead fish. It has been noted that water authorities along the Ohio River sourced their water from different suppliers for several days as the plume from the wreck moved down the streams and rivers. That plume has now been so diluted and dispersed that it can no longer be tracked.

IamSauerKraut t1_j91ufzt wrote

Fumes are composed of chemicals, sure.

But if chemicals are contaminating the water, does that not flow downstream in the water? All surface streams in the burg flow south and west. Away from Maine.

If you mean fumes rise into the air, then you should know that those aerosols diffuse and disperse into the air to the point that they are hyper-diluted. Not to mention that numerous weather systems have moved anything that would cause dirty rain in Maine far beyond the coast, if that particular air mass even moved over Maine.

JimBones31 t1_j91uuvq wrote

Unless they have cleaned up the chemicals, don't think of them as a mass that is moving. Think of them as a mass that is spreading.

But seriously, you can think of them as Cheerios if you want to. I'm cool with that.

Based on ground and air observation reports, that is not happening. There is no mass in the air that is moving. Localized fumes in eastern OH are not moving into Maine. There may be spots in the ground that remain contaminated but the site is undergoing remediation.

Who you gonna trust? Some paranoid redneck who can't tell one chemical from another? A bunch of imbeciles who can't seem to understand that the fucking cloud moved out to sea almost two weeks ago? Or maybe a group of scientists who actually know what they're talking about?

Yup. That's how the elite stays elite.

They paint history with a certain brush: create narratives, distractions, rumors, wars, colors, lines; pointing of fingers, "You thought the problem was X, enter scenario Y"

My favorite lately is that of "my body my choice" advocacy from the "right", followed by Court's card flip to return rights to the states. Which then followed "my body my choice" from the left.

(Apologies in advance to sensitive audience) I'm a bot.

And lately what has worked is simply call anyone that disagrees a conspiracy theorist.

And yeah, that person will always be a conspiracy theorist, because conspiracy factists end up dead.

You don't believe me today, and that's ok. Noodle it yourself, or better yet stay ignorant.

I don't think you know much about the reign of terror if that's your take away. There were loads of coups, counter coups, purges etc. It isn't a false narrative by the elite to say the French experience with The Guillotine was not good. Many of those who met their fate were executed with no trial on BS charges.
