Probably the usual pork and kraut tomorrow.

It’s gotten better since I grew up and can actually make it myself, adding things like seasoning which provide flavor

Pork roast and sauerkraut all the way. We do hotdogs and kraut on the lead up to midnight.

Not a kraut person, but I will tear up some pork

We drain a bunch of the kraut juice and add thinly sliced apples. Adds some balance.

Think you mean enchiladas?

Encinitas is a city near San Diego.

Tonight? Sweet-n-Spicy Italian Meatballs, wings and shrimp cocktail. After midnight? Pork, Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.

medium_green_enigma t1_j2euttt wrote

Sauerkraut and kielbasa.

Does anyone know if you can freeze sauerkraut?

11

xAsroilu OP t1_j2ev2p0 wrote

You can but if you're all about the health benefits from it, you could probably damage it. Probably best for the bottom or back of the fridge storage

2

medium_green_enigma t1_j2ew3zx wrote

Not worried about the health benefit, I just hate to waste it and know I won't eat all of it. That's the downside of living alone, being responsible for all the leftovers.

Wonderful-Comment314 t1_j2exlvi wrote

Get a jar instead of a bag. It'll keep in the fridge for quite a while.

6

medium_green_enigma t1_j2f0s28 wrote

I should have done that. Alas, I bought a bag. Maybe my landlord will eat some.

In the grand scheme of things, it won't be the most expensive thing I've ever thrown out.

2

xAsroilu OP t1_j2exa36 wrote

I wouldn't freeze it for long, personally. But it's up to you!

Fiesta412 t1_j2f3vmm wrote

In theory you can freeze anything.... its just one of those things that when you freeze it, its just not that same afterwards.

Isn’t not eating Pork and Sauerkraut on New Year’s a similar sin as using Hunt’s ketchup in PA (or at least Pittsburgh).

Usually pork and saurkraut, this year herb crusted roast beef and potatoes

Encinitas? I think your phone autocorrected to California. We always do an array of appetizers on New Year's eve. Tomorrow, Baked ziti and meatballs.

Yup my phone did a phone and autocorrected 😥

I got them pre-made at Sams Club in Hanover, they are chicken. They are so good, I am not huge into spicy food but this one has the right amount of spicy. I've not been disappointed yet.

Pork and sauerkraut. I usually pair it with mashed potatoes, but I've eaten potatoes like all week and I'm out. I'll make some carrots and maybe rice.

SeraphRising89 t1_j2f1pik wrote

Crack chicken.

Two packets ranch seasoning, 4-5lbs chicken breast, two 8 ounce packages of cream cheese, and a pound of bacon. Put the chicken in the crock pot for 6-8 hours on low (4-6 on high) with the cream cheese cut into cubes on top with the ranch powder. Let cook. Bake your bacon crispy (or fry, depending on your methods), crumble, and add to the chicken when it is done and you have shredded it (similar to pulled pork).

Very easy.

Edited: didn't realize I had the low and high swapped ☺️ sorry!

Definitely making pork & kraut tomorrow. But my wife & kid don't like it so at the moment I have a Smithfield Sweet Onion Teriyaki pork loin in the oven and I'm making fried rice to go along with it for tonight.
