JayMan522 t1_iwqqfts wrote
That Maine lobster and eggs is the only thing I’ve ordered there. No regrets.
Fabulous_Interest197 t1_iwr1rcr wrote
I agree, the lobster and eggs is pretty spectacular. But I also enjoy the onion, tomato, and goat cheese omelette. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
Get reservations, it’s a popular spot.

Could you elaborate a little more? I love local drama.

Then you’ll love how batshit crazy the owner is. Tldr search the sub for the history and read the google reviews for funsies. I got sucked in for a couple days over her last meltdown on IG.
Status_Silver_5114 t1_iws2pho wrote
Oh please . The food is great and the wait staff is great (meaning her staff never had her wait on us so don’t know). Don’t look at her IG then but it’s great food.
Distinct-Ad5751 t1_iws9z03 wrote
She shut down her restaurant because a kid said the food smelled and went on an IG rant. She changes hours/table availability based on her feelings. Employees have been vocal about her unreliability and mood swings. Some of the food sucks. She insults diners.
OP doesn’t need a stress headache when dining.
Status_Silver_5114 t1_iwsr56k wrote
We’ve never had a bad experience eating there that’s the point. Working there sounds like it might be a different story (assume the same at rebelle then)?
Mrsericmatthews t1_iwt2q68 wrote
I don't have an opinion about this place. But, why would you want to support an establishment if you think working there could be bad for employees? 😕
Distinct-Ad5751 t1_iwtzdzq wrote
Why would you support a business that shuts down when the owner gets mad online? Do you think she pays employees when she has meltdowns? (she doesn’t)
Status_Silver_5114 t1_iwu7edc wrote
Then come out and say that. Your original comment just complained about the social media and Google reviews for anyone tend to suck and either be perfect or horrible like yelp so I don’t trust them. Leading with that back story would have been more useful info. Is the situation the same at rebelle?
Distinct-Ad5751 t1_iwurc6o wrote
Why are you so salty about it? She’s a wreck. Of course her employees bear the brunt of her craziness. If you can’t connect the dots, that’s a You issue.
And yes her bagel business is also a hot mess.
Status_Silver_5114 t1_iwut30j wrote
I’m salty about it bc I said the food was good and the wait staff was nice and you assumed the back story was known and jumped down my throat. We’ve never had bad food and the staff has always been kind and friendly. All of that is still true. Knowing more about her being a hot mess is useful info but I’m not going to lie and say we’ve had a bad experience based on your take on social media. We haven’t.
Distinct-Ad5751 t1_iwuu25q wrote
Fair points. My bad, I thought it was generally known she’s off the rails.
Status_Silver_5114 t1_iwuuu3l wrote
Without having someone in the biz or spending lots of time on social media how would one know that? Genuine question. Side note / the blue cottage / how does that stay in business? Talk about bad food….. also fwiw all the “artisan” bagels can’t hold a candle to bagel gourmet. Closest thing to a real nyc bagel.

Bayberry Beer Hall (and Garden, I imagine although never been) has an awesome brunch. Can't go wrong with Nicks either as suggested.

I’ve been to both, garden is a little fancier and $$$. But both are great.

Julian’s! Their hash is awesome, they have vegan options if that’s how you roll. Also their rolls are fantastic. And you can drink outside as you wait 30min for a table!

Damn, this post has been up for a while and no one mentioned Julian's yet? We'll, let me be the first then...
aflatminer t1_iwqqwsu wrote
I really expected Julian's to be the top comment. There's usually a wait but you can get drinks from the bar and drink them out front while you wait! I recommend the bloody Marys.
Be careful though, my party of 4 ran up a ridiculous tab before we even got to our table.
bungocheese t1_iwrhw3a wrote
The food is good and the space is neat but IMO it's a once a year type of place for me. I think you can get just as good brunch food at other places and the wait is always really long (I know, noone goes there it's too busy joke, har) and other places with awesome brunches also have cool vibes.
eastcoastflava13 t1_iwrieam wrote
Cool, how about you suggest some of these 'other places with awesome brunches'?
Edit: I see you commented with suggestions elsewhere. Carry on...
aflatminer t1_iwse7uu wrote
Yeah that’s fair. However, it is without a doubt the classiest way to drink on the sidewalk on a Sunday morning that I can think of.
bungocheese t1_iwqljn7 wrote
Rogue Island has the best specials, Nicks quality and service is always great, Troop is awesome and such a unique vibe, bayberry food is great but I've never been for brunch, every time I've tried to go it's packed, Julians is popular but IMO not worth the crazy waits when so many other great places are around.
