Is there any internet provider other than Spectrum in Worcester? I'm moving near Elm Park and read terrible things about Spectrum but also haven't been able to find any other providers. I WFH and game so would need high speed internet.

FIOS is just starting to come online in Worcster . You can go to there site and enter your address and see if FIOS is a option yet or not

Verizon offers a $50 monthly 5G service (with the autopay discount) that is really good. You order the service and they ship you a little cube that you plug in and that gives you really good Wi-Fi. It's not available everywhere in the city, but it's definitely the better and cheaper option where it is. It's different from FIOS.

FWIW, I’ve been in worcester for almost 10 years and I’ve have nothing but positive experiences with spectrum.

I am aware however that my experience is not the norm.

spectrum is pretty okay. you can reset your internet automatically through their app if you're having issues that are not caused by your router or modem (happened to me once or twice)

I live near Elm Park. I’m not sure if it’s because of the monopoly or what, but Spectrum is pricier than what my peers pay for internet, for slower speeds.

I hear FiOS is coming, though, and I’d love to try it!

I've always had very quick and responsive support. I don't like the price, but they're pretty reliable when you have issues. I've heard Spectrum is transitioning to 500mbps up and down soon, probably in response to FIOS availability and 5G home service.

There is no monopoly. Spectrum is the only one who made the investment to be here (with FIOS from Verizon coming).

EDIT: Come on guys, do a little research. Its all on the interwebs. The agreement with Spectrum/Charter is publicly available - its on the first page, the agreement is non-exclusive.

Living near Elm Park for a year, I learned it pays to pay. I got the 200MBS to start and I might as well have busted out a dial up. I upgraded to 1GB and I could have hacked into the Pentagon if I wanted

Just a note that the 500mbps is active; I called them last week to ask about my billing and they upgraded me from 400 to 500 and a bundle price that was 25 a month less. Wife and I both WFH so having strong internet is a must, and overall Spectrum here is better than what the national opinion seems to be. Speed does fluctuate between 350 and mid 500s.

Investment my ass. These cable lines in our city have been here for over 40 years and they’ve done nothing to improve them. The City signs a deal w Spectrum and they get exclusive rights. It’s a scam and everybody knows it yet nobody does shit about it
