The gap in the flooring is bothering me more than it should..

Same….. it’s an apartment I’m renting in a foreign country, so just something to deal with. :/

I thought it was a new build in the US. Looks like mine 🥲.

Cute kitty!

dinokith OP t1_itgh6gm wrote

Nope! Never lived in the US.

This building is in Kazakhstan, and it is definitely a little older.

I shall now call the bathroom the toilet closet.

dinokith OP t1_itf33rj wrote

Haha. It is a toilet closet though! It’s as wide as the doorframe and only has a toilet in it.

TimTam_the_Enchanter t1_itfdxd5 wrote

So much better than when people stick the toilet in the actual bathroom, to me — both for hygiene reasons and because nobody wants to be stuck outside the bathroom doing the gotta-pee shuffle while someone else is having a shower. 😆

I agree! Some toilets in Japan have a bit of a sink the top of the toilet tank. Unfortunately, this one does not, which means you need to go into another room to wash your hands.

Thank you! She was found on the street here. :(

Ohhh noo! Thank you for caring enough to give her a home!

Mysyk = cat in Kazakh ( and many other Turkic languages, I suppose ), so name checks out

Yup. As suggested by my Kazakh students. :)

You should let her in. She's trying to protect you, by keeping a lookout while you are vunerable. She expects you to do the same for her.

I'm sorry I'm confused, why do you have a closet room next to your toilet?

3

dinokith OP t1_itf4o4q wrote

Nope. The room the toilet is in is just incredibly small. There’s only the toilet in the room.

I love her name! How did you come up with it?

3

dinokith OP t1_itfa4ap wrote

I am working at an international school in Kazakhstan. Asked the students for a name. Apparently it means “cat” in Kazakh.

I love that you basically have a John Wayne cat now. When I was a kid, my dad would always insist that we should call the dog "Dog" because that's what John Wayne called his dog in some movie.

1

dinokith OP t1_itfbon9 wrote

Haha. I didn’t know that! Apparently it’s a common name for cats here, and it is adorable.

harleyspoison267 t1_itfd27c wrote

My grandfather was a very old school American country dude lol. That's funny that there's tons of cats running around with the name cat, but that is quite cute 😊

If you zoom in, the cat looks like a painting. She’s a work of art.

I’ll be sure to let her know! Thank you.

I love how the cats always know right where the boundary is to the room they can't go to, and they'll get as close to that edge as possible while still complying with your rules XD

How does one tell a cat they “aren’t allowed” somewhere? Asking for my fur covered closet …BTW beautiful cat!

dinokith OP t1_itjks1e wrote

When she would start walking in, I would say “ah ah” and lift my foot. The foot lifting was to get her attention. Now she knows the verbal command.

1

harleyspoison267 t1_itfbf34 wrote

My traumatized pittie isn't necessarily "not allowed" in the bathroom, though it's small, so I'm very glad she doesn't come in, but she's terrified of tile, so when I go into the bathroom and she's feeling clingy, she will come and lay with her paws right on the transition strip and watch me 😂 #hacks

I assure you that “toilet closet” is correct. It’s the size of a closet and only has a toilet in it.

7

mrpayner t1_itfqy6b wrote

I see where you’re going with this.. in explanation to people from other nations, house plans in Australia with a seperate “toilet in a closet”, for lack of a better description, are depicted as “WC” on the plans, which means “water closet”.

6

dinokith OP t1_itfrwkn wrote

We sometimes use the term in Canada as well, though it’s considered dated or used for one with a toilet and a sink (what we now call a half-bath). I enjoyed my solution.

4

PogoStickonSkates t1_itfkyco wrote

Yea but in some countries, we keep the toilet in a small separate room away from the shower, sink, bathtub, etc. So it’s like a toilet closet for us. I’ll never understand why someone wants us to all speak the same way.

You go about it in a misguided way. I’m a native English speaker. Hell, I’m an English teacher.

It doesn’t mean that I don’t want to have fun with my words. Despite what I called it, you knew what I meant; therefore, the comment is wholly unnecessary and unhelpful.
