95 to 295 Ramps and Road conditions within city Lines

Why are the ramps from 95 to 295 and vice versa in such horrible condition and no sign of improvement? The potholes to get from 95N to 295 are atrocious not to mention, as some of you may know, it's death trap to merge. I pray I don't get a random flat or basically hit. At times I can't avoid using this road. Can I also add you can't even see the lane markers at night. In the rain, folks were all over the place because the lanes are not visible.

Once you are out of city limits on 295, the road is miraculously smooth again.

Coming back from airport from 295 to 95, the road condition (and signage for 95) is awful.

Who do we write to? The road conditions along with the filth? Hopefully they are all not still working remotely...cause it seems that way!

I use the Maryland Highway agency service request website! It works. I requested they clean the area of I-95 near S. Caton Avenue, a crew came out to clean the litter. Our neighborhood has a woman who works with traffic construction, she got us this link for all the request. So far my clean up request and another neighbor’s new sign request were done. It takes time to do the picture and the request but it’s worth it to see improvement.

THANK YOU. and I've driven it enough that today I finally was frustrated enough to ask here and know I cannot be the only one. I will complete this for the areas I referenced and one other one around Key Highway. And yes, Caton would have been on my list too. :-)

I got a link for the state Highway projects from our block captain. She doesn’t think repaving 295 by the city line is a scheduled project but you can look through the list to see. Baltimore is in District 4 for the state highways.

She also said Baltimore DOT, not the state is responsible for 295 inside the city. The original question about 295 ramps might be better directed to the Baltimore City dot representative who is on here. I don’t fully understand it, I believe she said 95 and 895 are state maintenance but the 295 part inside the city is city DOT.

I can’t figure out how to tag the DOT person to ask them.

I drive a tractor trailer and LOATHE this stretch of road. It will literally shake my trailer ( flatbed ) so much that I have to pull over and tighten my straps down, which is not fun on the shoulder of 95. ( Have to do it before till plaza because DOT does alot of stops past the plaza). Then drivers ride the middle lane and get over at the last minute to avoid the speed bump prior to exit. Uugghh!! I usually reduce my speed to avoid damage to leaf springs, shackle bushings and the like but yeah its horrible. Borderline criminal negligence. 95 work zones are no better near 695. Be safe, thanks for letting me vent.

agree. Criminal negligence and that is not an exaggeration. How this exists on this roadway is massive oversight on whoever runs this effort and folks below it.

My take is that Maryland has a TON of highway for such a small state. And maryland keeps building new highway and widening old ones. It comes at the expense of maintaining the very heavily trafficked highways. I lived in Buffalo most of my driving life, and even with the snow ice and salt, 90, 190, 290 and 990 are in better shape than 95, 295, and 495.

Last night I followed Waze's suggestion to take I-195W to I-95 because there was a delay on MD295 North. Ok sure, no biggie.

It's not my normal route and it was incredibly foggy, so I wasn’t prepared. I hit a bone-rattling pothole on that offramp so fucking hard that I thought my car might fall apart before getting to Baltimore.

I remembered to walk outside this morning to make sure I didn’t have a flat tire. Suspension and Alignment…that’s another story.

Throw in Howard St from 395 to Read street. Insane it has not been repaired since the light rail went in.

I couldn’t believe as soon as they were done working on the bridges they packed everything up and left. I drive that route every day back and forth to the airport and it is one trashy, pothole filled mess.

Unfortunately the bridges were done by the city and 295 is maintained by SHA. I also found it weird that there wasn't some agreement in place to repave the road by SHA when the bridges were done. Hoping maybe it's planned for this summer since the work just finished.

State roads outside of the city are maintained by MDOT SHA. The toll tunnels/bridges and the approaches to those facilities are maintained by MDOT MDTA. The elevated portion of I-83 may still be maintained by MDOT SHA.

I hope someone sees this. So 83 is swept weekly but 295 is not. So it is a different branch that would oversee 295? Cause there are striking differences for sure in conditions.

And say an exit like key highway….who oversees that? SHA?

There’s not much to see. I believe it was William Donald Schaefer as Mayor of Baltimore that fought for and won the responsibility to maintain the roads within the city. Along with that responsibility comes a pot of money.

As for the ramps from Key Highway, ramps to 895, etc…some of that is questionable because the property ownership is ‘ambiguous’.
