I was crossing w the pedestrian sign on, he tried to run and slammed his brakes bc I got in his way, so I flipped him off. He got out so I started running and he chased me down and hit me in the head several times before going back to his car. I was too shocked and scared to follow him back to his car.

These cameras record video and the city has access to that video. You can get a copy of it by filing a FOIA with the city.

  1. Go here
  2. Click on "Request a public record"
  3. Click on "Submit a public records request to the city of Boston"
  4. Create an account/log in
  5. Submit a request. Use something like the following for the body of the request:

>Recorded footage from video/traffic cameras on Huntington Ave between the Fire Department and Sweeny Field, and especially at the Ruggles Street Intersection. Include video from [TIME] Eastern Standard Time [DATE] to [TIME] Eastern Standard Time the same day. Make the footage available in an industry standard format, such as MP4. Thank you.

Select "BPD Video Evidence Unit", "Public Records", and "Transportation" when making the request

They usually turn that around with 24 hours, but not sure about Friday.

Good luck.

You can file a police report and the police will get the same footage, but IME, they might not share it with you. You should probably file a police report too.

Note that those cameras pan. It might not have been pointed in the direction of the incident when it happened unfortunately.

OP, glad you're safe. In future, please rethink giving the middle finger to anyone anywhere. There are a lot of mentally ill people who are not supposed to drive but are on the road anyways. One time a woman driver showed me what looked like a 7 inch knife because I honked when she didn't turn right after lights turned green and it's been a few seconds she's been sitting. That was on Newbury St. These days it's best to keep your head down and ignore unless someone directly attacks you, no guarantee anyone will show up on time to protect you. Better safe not engaging psychos out there

Please report this to the police. Even if they do fuck all about it it's another data point about an assault on a pedestrian and these need to be documented.

My god really? Do you think these folks do this because they know there won’t be any ramifications? you run that risk of what this guy ran into. But I’d have run back at the guy not away from. choose your battles wisely.

I did… note how all these examples u bring up are prime examples of reckless driving (and nearly every other word is misspelled lmao) - just reinforcing my point that ppl with ur violent mindset shouldnt be allowed behind the wheel of a 2 ton machine.

Sorry, I just want to make sure I understand the situation. Instead of driving around, looking for a spot, or parking in a lot/garage, you choose to block a bike lane, and get angry and threaten the bicyclists who get mad at you for obstructing their right of way?

>Yeah crossing the street well after the walk signal starts is really crossing the line… people like you are fucking psychotic and shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a car

Scary thing is he works for FedEx. Wonder if they know what a fucking whack job he is

I have no idea what a “bike line” is. Now, if you mean “bike lane”, and your referring to the painted lanes on along the curbs of the street, I will repeat…you have no right to park there.

If that’s not what you were referring to, please let me know what a bike line is.

That persons response is reprehensible, and shouldn’t ever happen. But use this as a lesson when involved in these situations. Don’t antagonize someone because people’s responses are not always logical.

Sucks that it is that way, but it’s the world we live in now.

To add to this, it may get stalled by the Records Access Officer if an investigation is open if you go the Public Records Route. Under Exemption (f), law enforcement can redact or withhold records subject to an ongoing investigation. The public records law does not give anyone a superior right of access to a public record even if you’re the person who would be the beneficiary of the investigation. So exemption (f) still would apply to OP. Just something to be aware of

Hope you are good and BPD can help you out. I’m glad it didn’t end with bloodshed . Take it From someone that grew up in the inner city in Boston. Do not engage in traffic disputes if you value your life and safety, it’s not worth it. Crosswalks mean nothing to most Bostonian drivers never mind some tough guy wanna be . You could’ve been ran over and he probably wouldn’t have stopped. Be street smart and let these lowlifes go on their way without engaging.

Streets used to be public spaces where people gathered, now they are war zones and people can't even walk around their own neighborhood.

I hope you are ok.

So you admit you can't block lanes of travel... now what is a bike lane again? A lane of travel? It is just as unacceptable to block bike lanes as it is the entire road/sidewalk. Literally follow your own thought through and you'll get there buddy

Not sure why this is being downvoted. This is sound advice. Sucks that this happened to OP, but flipping someone off can instigate the wrong person in the wrong ways to do the wrong things and if you’re not carrying (which I doubt anyone in Boston does) then you might feel very unsafe.

Elected officials need to hear these stories as well. Maybe one day we can get enough momentum for traffic enforcement.
