That looks like the apartment building from Let the Right One In

And every other apart.ent building built in Sweden between 1960 and 1990. Amazingly accurate 4pm lighting as well.

Most certainly not 80’s or 90’s. Prefab concrete elements with visible joints with the occasional sand blasted cladding made of crushed stone is definitely a product of the record years - 1966-74

Looks like every Swedish apartment building from the 70s. They have a very particular style.

Where in Canada?? This reminds me more of eastern Europe. I've never seen apartment buildings like this in Canada

You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog t1_iyypu3o wrote

Winnipeg, Manitoba. Newer areas have more modern looking buildings of course, but older areas (built maybe 40+ years ago?) look exactly like this. This was literally the view from my last apartment.

East German Plattenbau -style comes to mind.
Remove the dividing lines and you get a West German 1970s style.

Hi all! This pixel art animation is 320x200px using 7 colors and 40 hand drawn frames. I doubled the resolution for viewing purposes. I drew the snow one by one :'''''') I wish you all a great weekend <3

Looks really nice! I think you nailed the look and feel of the snow drifting down. Makes me all nostalgic

AdvocateReason t1_iyrjxpu wrote

Is there a method to make snowfall look like this?
Do you research the way snow looks as it falls?
Or is this method known?
This animation is just so convincing.

Very true. Seven colors if all that we have right now, three of them are lit windows, and one more is the sky. That leaves 3 for everything else... :D

Not all Eastern Europe countries belonged to the Soviet Union. E.g. Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, were under the influence of the Soviet Union but technically they didn’t belong to the Soviet Union.

szakipus t1_iyuthaa wrote

I know right. I'm Polish :) We didnt belong directly to the Soviet Union but everything was soviet-influenced including housing architecture. Here we call such building post-soviet or post-communist.

Basically a density of the development is the main difference between Estonian cityscapes and Soviet ones. Grew up back in one of them.
