Beautiful. Too bad the glare from the sun/ lighthouse isn't pixelated.

Gives me the feeing when a game does retro 16 bit aesthetics, then suddenly sprites are scaled and rotated and break out of the pixel grid…

IdealIdeas t1_j0rhkt9 wrote

Actual old pixel based games rotated and scaled back then too.

Castlevania 4 on and contra 3 did it on snes

Space Harrier did it on sega systems

FastFooer t1_j0rycct wrote

They did, but the pixels were tied to the resolution, the pixel ratio was unafected and there was no antialiasing of it.

That lens flare isn't very pixel arty

loulan t1_j0s53it wrote

Honestly it didn't even need a lens flare.

I don't like the non-pixelart glare, but other than that looks great

Hmm, I did it without a glare originally but it felt kinda bland

FartIntoMyButt t1_j0q0qj4 wrote

Not bland at all IMO!

The glare version is all about the glare.

The original allows the eye to travel from left to right, moving from the grubby, unwelcoming wall and letting the birds guide you across the landscape towards a brighter, sunnier tomorrow.

obsessiveimagination t1_j0qw0pt wrote

You just described exactly how my eyes progressed across the art. If the flare was pixelated, 10/10! Either way, it's a beautiful scene

I like glare version. Love it actually.

I love the glare. The mesh of art styles is really nice.

I was wondering how is it possible that the sun appears so blindingly bright even though it's not actually brighter, and I noticed that the whole scene was darkened to help produce that effect.

Clever.

That is a lighthouse, but good eye

vixit_art OP t1_j0qrg6e wrote

Tbh I thought of it as just light reflecting from a window of tall building directly into the camera for a moment. But maybe it's too bright for that, could be a lighthouse

I used to live in a town that had a levee wall like this and it’s uncanny how much this reminds me of it and countless other little river towns on the Mississippi.

Great work!

I love pixel art. I can't put my finger on it. Something about makes me feel nostalgic, familiar, or something.

Magnificent, like a video game from the 80s

Not in the 80's. This level of resolution is early 90's.

I'd say mid 90s.

Nah. The Secret of Money Island came out in 1990 and had this level of detail. Monkey Island 2 followed in 1991 and was even better. Tomb Raider 1 (1996) was already fully 3D.

I wish I knew the word for the feeling i get when I see pixel art like this. It's almost nostalgia but it's more like I want to live in that simple magical snippet of a world..

I absolutely love this! The way the glare was done was so good. The way everything darkens when it hits, 🤌🏻.

Is that suposed to be a lighthouse? Or the sun, it's really bright but no beam? IDK it's still amazing.
