8 birds in the hand are worth how many in the bush?

MyPenWroteThis t1_j4x5484 wrote

It's in reverse. Those birds flew backwards when they left.

CheeseLick t1_j4x9rzi wrote

You start with trained birds on your hand then snap to get them to fly away. From there, you just reverse the video. The really difficult part is teaching birds to fly backwards.

Marines Alone: In Spain.

I had a similar experience on my med cruise. Ported in Barcelona, took a train to Tarragona. While there, visited the square, bought a bag of seed from a little old lady for $5, threw up the seed, spread my arms, and proceeded to have pigeons cover my arms and head from fingertips to fingertips. So surreal, and a memory I'll treasure forever.

I had a gf that could get close to this power. Hers stopped at flies tho. For no reason I can discern, flies were just not bothered by her. A fly was on a window once, she just reached out and gently plucked it right off the glass, as easy as picking up an apple. It even sat on her finger. I never understood how she could do that.

Yup. I had a pair of California towhees in my backyard one year that were nearly finger tame. I could have gotten them there in a few weeks, but one of them got their head snapped in a rat trap I had hidden behind a bush. I was sooooo sad when I realized I'd killed one of them by not hiding the trap better. The other one left shortly thereafter. Hopefully they found a new mate. They're really strongly pair bonded.

Depends on the extrapolating function.

It could (reasonably) be anywhere from 2 to 64.

2: static value of N birds in hand. F(N)=2

16: each bird in hand is worth 2 in bush: F(N)=2×N

64: Each Bird in the hand is some Linear combination of birds in bushes:

F(N)=A×N^2 + B×N + C

For F(1) = A + B + C = 2

For F(8)= 64A + 8B + C = 64

62 = 63 A + 7B

Etc.

In any case, we'd need more hand bird to bush bird data points to make any fair assumption.
