I can’t be the only one who is noticing it. It’s hard to walk without staring at the ground to avoid it.

What you are saying is true, but the issue of sidewalk poop predates covid by A LOT. This has been a common, recurring QoL issue in DTJC, and all over JC, since as far back as I have lived here (2006) and used to get discussed quite a bit in the other JC forum.
Chalk it up to shitty dog owners 💩
we noticed this too, it seems to have gotten WAY worse in the last couple days for some reason. and in my neighborhood someone’s not feeding their dog right bc there’s a lot of hershey squirts on the sidewalks. it’s terrible.
I legitimately think people have seen they can get away with it, which leads to more shit on the sidewalk, which makes more people not care either.
I also haven't heard that mini sidewalk sweeper come by in like a year.
Dog owners feel cheated out of the annual “because there’s snow I can leave my poop on the sidewalk and it’ll be covered” phenomena. So in rebellion against nature itself they’ve decided to behave like there IS snow.
Shitty dog owners being shitty with their dog shit. Shitty situation.
LUXURY SHITTY
JC has the worst dog poop problem of any city I’ve been to. It’s disgusting.
SF has more human poop on the ground, but at least it’s usually not smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk where you might accidentally step in it.
I lived in Astoria and worked in Washington Heights for years and can attest that both were far worse. There are irresponsible dog owners everywhere unfortunately.
It’s nuts, never leave the house without bags with my dog, and love to put people on blast walking theirs with there arms swinging.
I do wonder about stray cats/raccoons/skunks, but I agree that many of the shmears can only be dog.
This also could be another issue that could be improved if we didn’t have possibly the lowest amount of trash cans per capita in the USA. Maybe these owners don’t want to carry a shitbag 4-5 blocks back to their own garbage can like I do 2x a day?
I’m also a dog owner. I used to think more trash cans would help, but lately there’s been an absurd amount of household trash being put in cans near me. The trash cans have been disappearing — I guess the city is sick of them getting full and got rid of some 🤔
It’s super frustrating cuz Union City has a zillion trash cans and they’re all well cared for.
Zero excuse for folks to be lazy arses, but as also a pup owner, damn do I agree. You don’t realize how infrequent the public cans are till you’re on a walk swinging a poop bag for 4 or 5 blocks. (And it’s inexcusable to toss into someone’s private garbage—don’t do that people.) More public trash cans would be nice.
Its not just dog lately. I've seen quite an uptick in the human variety, too.
It's free, take as much as you want.
Character is determined by how you behave when you think no one is watching. Says a lot about these people, but they probably already accept that they're a$$h0les.
I saw a human defecating on Newark Ave one night.

It was worse on the UWS but probably trending that way.
Please see any of the other daily posts about people seeing dog poop on the sidewalks.
I was looking. Guess i didn’t scroll far enough
You're sure it's dog poop?

Not to mention the bagged poop in little packages the color of green or purple sadness, carefully twisted closed then tossed WHEREVER a minimal amount of effort will deliver them to.
It is ridiculous or even more ridiculous is people who pic up their dog's poop and... Throw the bag on the sidewalk.
Like why pick it up in the first place?
Animals poop too
Living in Jersey City, you eventually realize that dog poop is seasonal. In the cold weather there aren’t as many flies and bugs around to eat it. So each turd sticks around a lot longer than in the warm months.
You can thank Gov Murphy for taking away all the single use plastic bags, including the biodegradable ones, to make our city cleaner! Nothing says clean and green like taking away poop bags and garbage liners from people with low income. No, let’s PAY for our plastic bags. Free bags are a luxury only other states are allowed!
If they can’t afford plastic bags they really shouldn’t have a dog in the first place.
That’s a good point! Did I hear you volunteering to go take away their dogs and rehome them?
I want to. Something tells me id end up getting shot or arrested for trying to steal peoples dogs though
Well if it means that much to you…
