The JC location isn’t on their website :(. Wonder if they will still keep the smorgasbar location.

I hope so. I like the bar well enough. Smorgasburg was a fun little thing to try some foods you otherwise wouldn't but it was pretty damn pricey.

they haven’t said anything about JC yet so I’m still hopeful. there is construction in that area currently and, they have a place called Smorgasbar for fucks sake lol. I’d be real sad if it was confirmed gone

Wonder if Smorgasbar will go back to the Lutze branding they had when they first opened. I don't care what they call it, that place is awesome. Smorgasburg was a waste of time and money.

Almost certainly not. Pretty sure the Lutze was named after the grandfather of the CEO of Mack-Cali, who was forced out by a new board and is no longer the CEO.

Ah, that certainly won't happen then, but they could call it "shitty place to have a drink" and I would still go every nice night in the summer. In fact, I hope they re-name it to that so people who don't know stay away.

On google maps it says "permanently closed" if that means anything.

Smorgasburg (on the Urby parking lot) is separate from Smorgasbar in the waterfront, which will open whenever they feel like it. Smorgasburg will need a new location if they ever want to return to JC.

That’s a bummer. It was part of my Saturday routine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it as crowded as the ones in NYC though so I get it.

When it’s 90 degrees outside no one wants to stand in a asphalt parking lot

People seem to be just fine doing that in NYC

We all do a lot of dumb things in our 20s that we don't repeat in our 30s. The best thing to come out of any Smorgasbar is the Corn Kid.

It was where dreams go to die. Who wants to stand on a black top parking lot in 100 degree weather to eat overpriced grease and hang by yourself. No atmosphere. Ever.

When was that? It always seemed packed when I went by

The bar is great, with the tacos and pizza enough. A lot of the vendors at Smorgasburg JC were just weak. $14 for duck fat fries that take 40 minutes? Nope.

The bar is wonderfully staffed with a huge selection of usually cheaper local ales, cannot fault it.

Jersey-City-2468 t1_jdjh3c1 wrote

Not surprisingly. Total lack of anything really worthwhile there for vendors, too damn hot, and too damn expensive to deal with it. Shitty parking lot. No ambiance.

Now there’s once again nothing to do at Harborside. Such a waste of space. I even tried to see what I could get for dinner after work there yesterday, basically the only thing open was Poke.

Jahooodie t1_jdimgqn wrote

The retail & especially the food stalls at Harborside is more of a marketing expense/claimed amenity for the developer, less of an actual place to visit

Maybe because people keep throwing their chairs in the hudson?

Man, I hope it's a clerical error on the website update. It was pretty well run, the bar was decent, I liked it (early before the crowds got pressing). Part of the best part of their empire is that they rotate vendors, so it's usually fresh to go every week.

You see, we need to build LUXURY HOUSING on every open patch of land downtown.

But actually it looks like the the lot they used last year is currently being used by the crew making light rail repairs to the track between Harsimus and Harborside. Hopefully they come back once they are done with the track work.

Gotta be honest… don’t care.

Not sure if we got the B-team but the lines were insane and the cost was astronomical.

Accomplished_Day2991 t1_jdkl352 wrote

Did you guys like it? I personally find it stressful. My whole time was spent on lines, my friends were on other lines, not much vino, no place to sit.

2

Particular-Seesaw-56 t1_jdmm9tt wrote

Hopefully they don’t do away with the bar. The vendors on sat were okay but the bar was always a clutch spot to bring friends visiting or just a great place to get out of the house and drink some beers on the waterfront. Tacos and pizza were plenty

smorgasburg was lame. overpriced food in a boiling hot parking lot.

smorgasbar, on the other hand, is a lovely place to grab a beer and hang and sit and watch the river after work.

The construction over there would make it a mess to get to, and I doubt it’ll be done in time. Hopefully it’s just temporary.
