In my yard I get grackles, mourning doves in my roof/awning, rock pigeons, sparrows, finches, occasional black birds, mockingbirds and cardinals. Near Morris Canal I spot a lot of what you mentioned, and at night during low tides you can often spot Black Crowned Herons.

I want to see the age demographic. A family member of mine moved but it's because they retired and moved to be closer to family that lives out of state. Of course a ton of old people are taking their retirement to a cheaper state and specifically to ones that are warm and have little to no tax on retirements.

I still want a snitch program for bad drivers here. In NYC if a truck idles for more than 5 minutes and you record it the city fines them $350 and you get $87.50. We as civilians should have the ability to send in body cam/phone/dash cam footage and get people fined. If every pedestrian, cyclist and car could be fining you traffic would get better, especially if we have a monetary incentive to snitch on reckless drivers.

If I put a webcam on my balcony with high enough resolution I could probably pay my rent if we could get a $50 kick back for each traffic violation.

Some people are also just totally unaware of how to do this stuff. I grew up helping do home repairs and even constructed my own tool box when i was a little kid. On the other hand my wife grew up in buildings with on site maintenance guys, before I moved in with her the only tools she had came in that orange Ikea toolkit.

Waiting for a professional to install something critical that you don't think you have the tools or knowledge to install isn't too crazy.

If they are anything like a couple Russian Jewish and Cuban families that I know they don't actually give a shit about authoritarian or fascist politicians. They just know that they left a "communist" country and so any claim of "communism" or "socialism" and they back he actual fascists.

It's amazing that someone who fled an autocratic country could think the ACA is a step closer to us looking like Venezuela and not the UK but that's what I've seen repeatedly.

Fun fact, police started the vast majority of riots in the last couple decades. Look up "police riots", police violently dispersing peaceful protests causes riots. But to answer you, no there is no equivalency and to pretend there is when you are supposed to be a expert in your field is fucking absurd.

I have such a low opinion of Political Science professors after a Harvard professor on NPR who was openly republican tried to "both sides" the situation around political extremists. He gave the whole, pendulum swinging but the ideal is probably somewhere in the middle, while also blaming the left for domestic terrorism as if it's anywhere near as prevalent as the right wing loons.

I've advocated it here before but what I'd really like to see is utilitarian housing projects but have it geared towards middle class people instead of filling it up with low income households. One of the biggest failures of housing projects like Pruitt-Igoe in the past is that the maintenance and upkeep are dependent on the people most vulnerable to market fluctuations, so every downturn in the economy sees the buildings fall into disrepair and those with means to get out do and it's a downward spiral.
