Update for anyone who has this question later: I was able to speak to the delivery driver directly and he said when this happens, the delivery driver will call you for the passcode. If you miss the call, they won’t deliver the package. This seems like a new thing that will likely become more common.
Hi everyone, wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
I ordered something off Amazon, and got an email that the delivery requires a one time passcode to be released.
Meaning I have to verbally provide the delivery person with some secret number before they release my package.
Issue is, my buildings packages are dropped off at reception/the mail room, so I don’t actually speak to the delivery person. Note this is also in the app and I spoke to customer service, so not a scam.
Has anyone else had this happen before? How has this worked out?
Thanks!

They’re doing this in neighborhoods with high theft rates. You’ll need to either be home or pass that info to the concierge in a doorman building. Started a little while back. Amazons not even the first to do this.
This is going to become more common. Customers are becoming price sensitive thanks to the economy so they can’t just incorporate the cost of all the theft into the sale price. Something has to give.
Or order elsewhere. But I think most delivery services will be rolling out similar features in the very near future.
