ugh, should have been longer. she used to argue with me in local facebook groups when we lived in the same town. one time she was super pressed someone in a natick group asked if anyone wanted to carpool to protest the straight pride parade because she was an organizer of it and said people in the fb group were discriminating against her being straight. absolute garbage human.

She did little more than run her mouth. Others did a great deal more and are being held accountable. There have been many prosecutions, I do not believe this singlular one is indicative of leniency -
a wealthy white conservaitve woman - the very kind of person our society is centered on protecting at all costs - is going to spend some time in jail.
That is PLENTY terrifying for those who may feel similarly entitled, and have chosen a similar role for themselves in our society as this crazy lady did.

These are the types of people emboldened by social media and the internet. The engage with people and they think they are “winning” the micro debates or whatever it is we do in comments sections. We need to create a culture where this type of person is acknowledged for being an idiot and just ignored. Take away their impact. Would trump have been so effective if not for twitter? Look what happened when they took it away? He faded away like a dolar store candle.

Yeah, they don’t accept facts, they don’t accept main stream media, they don’t accept academia, quoting anything, anything I’d consider real information, is “triggering” to them and they all get upset.
They’re quick to threaten violence, they try to anger liberals any way they can to “own a lib” and I have dubbed them “cons” for con people and short for conservative… I just don’t know how to talk to them.
If we don’t agree on a common set of data to interpret the world through, if they believe qanon and all these “deep state” conspiracies, how do I even get through to them?
I remember a time of being able to have a rational debate with a con and not calling them cons bc they hadn’t dubbed me a “libtard” yet… but it’s like okay we disagree on issue Y, where can we meet in the middle so as to get the policy passed?
I just don’t see this nowadays. The divide has been widening since I was a child and we are more divided now than ever before.
I don’t know how it gets better.
