They waited for Winnie The Pooh to enter public domain, shot a low effort film in 10 days in a genre that would be so absurd for the series that it would instantly draw public attention and made a 30x return on their 100k investment.
I see a lot of hate for the movie and people being glad that the movie bombed. But the creators are the ones laughing all the way to the bank. That was very clever of them.

It's less about being happy that they bombed than being satisfied that someone wasn't rewarded for low-effort scammery when so many other people who deserve it are not recognised for their work.
It's not every case, definitely, but this case is one of them.
I don't believe in hating on a product just because I don't like it, though.
sure great artists should be rewarded thats not question. However unless a film is made just to scam people or is made in a disingenuous way then whats the problem.

I've read through the history of the production of this movie and I came to my own determination that this is a cash-grab.
It is not exactly a scam, but it falls into a grey area that I do not agree with. It is my personal choice to not approve of the tactics of the filmmakers on a moral level.
You don't have to agree with me, and that's fine. But because of this, you also shouldn't dismiss people who disapprove just because YOU morally don't have a problem with their actions. Blanket statements damage legitimacy.
it's a bad movie. they just kept writing their script until it was long enough to be considered a feature. it's gross cynical filmmaking.

I don’t see how it’s a scam. The trailers show exactly what she movie is like, there’s nothing deceptive about it.
Making only 3 million dollars at the box office can appear to be a bomb for any theatrical release. But if their budget was indeed so small maybe they did actually make a profit after all the fees and expenses are deducted.
What is the scam here? Making a product people didn't know they wanted? It just seems like a good gamble. Because if it was that easy to 'just make a shitty cynical horror movie and make millions' then everyone would be doing it. They took a stab at a movie and it just happened to hit. That it's low budget and not very good is irrelevant. The streets of hollywood could be paved with all the shitty low budget movies produced every year that no one watches. Kudos to these people for actually getting eyes on their movie which is no easy feat.

I agree that’s an awesome reason to like it. The movie can still suck, but that part of the lore of this movie makes it cool in concept. That’s just an opinion, of course.
