So it feels like you have some anger issues. You can dislike these movies or characters but that you're so emotionally bothered by them is on you. Your response is not proportional to the fact you're watching movies.

So first and foremost you might want to sit with this fact and try to figure out why you're so angry. Second once you figure this out it is perfectly okay to dislike movies with unredeemable characters. Just because a movie is a classic doesn't mean you need to like it. There are plenty of classics I just don't like. However hopefully once you reach this point you'll have found some peace and you won't be angry over movies.

I think for some people distracted entertainment is entertainment. The type of people that are generally scrolling their phone the entire time they're watching television. So I imagine these people would say they had a good time at the theatre even though they spent a sizeable chunk of that time talking to their friends or playing on their phone

I feel like there are tons of low budget straight to streaming action movies made every year featuring men being heroes.

That adam driver is just in a futuristic theme park experience where humans and dinosaurs battle each other for survival. Then the movie twists again when you're shown driver is jist an AI human program that believes he is real and in fact it is the dinosaurs that are paying for the theme park experience to battle the humans

People enjoy the glossy fake realism of Hollywood. Obviously there is a place for more genuinely realistic movies but those won't typically attract the mainstream attention. Its a facade and we not only accept it but enjoy it. Give us perfect tooth Tom cruise riding a horse in 1873 and people will eat it up. There's nothing wrong with that. The more gritty realism is usually saved for the artier movies which are enjoyable in their own right

They make a point of saying it has nothing to do with the couple being gay. They're just a random couple with a child that is the object of God's current sacrificial bloodlust. The horrific act of God extends far beyond anything to do with the sexual preference of the victims. God is just a jerk in general in the movie

I honestly don't understand your critiques of how it looked. I thought it looked fine for it's budget. The only bits that looked a little wonky were the nighttime shots of the exterior of the plane flying and crashing. It looked like a budgetary constraint thing and directorial choice thing to make it look more stylized than realistic. But even then those shots were short and they were fine for the budget.

And going forward I feel like a better comparison for Butler movies are the Liam Neeson movies he did for a decade. They're dad movies, usually low budget with the appropriate action and cgi to reflect that, are surprisingly sincere, fun in a good guy saving the day way as opposed to shlocky or 'cool' way, and are just an easy watch with broad appeal. He's not making John Wick movies nor do I think he wants to. He's right in his preferred pocket of the 90's B-tier action movie. And personally I love that he's making these movies that kind of died in the 90's.

The issue seems to be you were expecting a campy movie when it's actually a sincere movie. This is not even in the same category as Snakes on a Plane. You're grading it's 'fun' level on a campy scale. Whereas I think most people are enjoying it sincerely. It's just a fun movie that's more akin to straight to DVD action films than campy shlock produced by Troma.

I thought it was a good movie and deserves the 6.5 rating. Butler holds the movie together well, Coulter made for a fun buddy, I disagree that the action was bad. Overall the movie is pretty good and hence got a pretty good rating from most people. So the answer to your question is, your opinion is subjective and happens to disagree with the majority opinion. That's fine. Just move on and don't become one of those people that's posting hateful threads about the sequel Ship when it comes out in a couple years. Because it's probably going to be more of the same. So save yourself the headache and just move on.

What is the scam here? Making a product people didn't know they wanted? It just seems like a good gamble. Because if it was that easy to 'just make a shitty cynical horror movie and make millions' then everyone would be doing it. They took a stab at a movie and it just happened to hit. That it's low budget and not very good is irrelevant. The streets of hollywood could be paved with all the shitty low budget movies produced every year that no one watches. Kudos to these people for actually getting eyes on their movie which is no easy feat.
