So, I know that New Jersey turnpike, parkway, and the Atlantic City expressway are all going to get cashless totaling in the next few years starting with the Atlantic City expressway.

I understand how it will work with the parkway and Atlantic City expressway, but how in the hell are they going to remove the toll plazas for the turnpike interchanges and not cause utter mayhem from people speeding at full highway speed and needing to cut across 10 lanes, I'm specifically thinking about the ones where it has separate car only and car, bus, truck. Even more so the Tpke-Pkwy interchange.

Are they gonna just leave-in toll plazas to slow people down enough to get across? Are they going to have to build basketweave flyovers or rebuild interchanges? Remove the plazas and paint regular lanes and tell drivers "good luck"?

The GWB is cashless, but the plazas are still there. There are simply no attendants anymore.

Unless they install overhead gantries, they need a place for the cameras and EZ-Pass readers, so I'd expect the plazas to remain, at least for the time being.

At the Holland Tunnel, I think it’s now completely switched to cashless tolling (electronic tolling). The Cash, EZ Pass structures are still there. Was reading about people covering up part or all of their license plates going through the electronic reader.

Yeah, now the can increase the tolls at will. People complain a lot more when they are actually pulling money out of a wallet vs a monthly bill.

What??? How does that logic work? The vast vast majority of people already use EZPass and read the amount from the sign and don't pull out a wallet. There is also a huge formal process for toll-setting, which was previously basically whenever they wanted but recently changed it to inflation-based.

Also, if we wanted tolls that charged whatever, we would do dynamic tolls that charged based on demand. (which I would support, but that's a separate issue)

If NY can figure it out, why can't we?

If you check your statement, the amount drawn is always more than you actually use. So the ez-pass earns interest in your money. Even when your on vacation they have your money in their account!
